I did not know that membership had been closed and I resent your suggestion. Jenny joined last week and I decided to do the same but was told that membership was closed. I asked Martin about this and he knew nothing about it, nor did Dominic.

As you can see by Chris's initial reaction, he wasn't worried about the lateness of the joining, it was more that I could not be elected, could not nominate or second any board members. It seems that he doesn't want anyone else on this apart from his friends. Although I spent an hour looking through the Trust book that I have I could not find anything that said it was closed to new members.

Every year membership is closed at the end of March, and then reopened in this case at the fun day, the year before at the AGM. It's so the book can be closed and audited.Roger you were told you'd be seeked out when it reopened.

I'm not sure if Jenny was told but she'll have to rejoin next season. But she'll be able to vote ect. ect.

Gary that was just a passing comment about people not joining in the last 4 months, not a reason for closing the membership

I was going to try and stay out of this thread but what the hell. I could understand the logic in "closing the book" if we were inundated with membership requests simply for ease of end of season mailings etc. But we are not. It is very rare that we are going to have new members trying to join at games and I don't think it is good PR to turn people away. If they want to give £10 for the sake of four weeks of membership that is up to them.

The second point I wanted to comment on is this

I do not accept that anything said in a board meeting is confidential from the members or supporters of Slough Town FC. I was asked yesterday direct questions about what happened at the meeting and in particular what was happening regarding the Trusts stance in the Local Election. I responded with my view on what happened. If the other board members don't like that - tough. And if they have a problem with me sharing information it should be brought to me personally preferable at a board meeting.

Eh? The post has just been deleted??? nazi censorship at work again tongue

Anyway Mart: Your openess and honesty is appreciated by those of us not on the board, who care about the club and what decisions have been made.

Good luck to Dom in the vote and well done to Sliski for the idea last year hopefully it will raise even more awareness this time.

Epicrebel you want me to reply to your answer so here it is:

"scratch cards on the coach, donations ect."

So are you saying that with scratch cards on the coach, donations etc. that the coach now breaks even? - that then goes against the previous statement that the coach is making a loss? so therefore carry on running the coach if it breakseven or makes a profit.

If the coach was making a loss then the funds would have to come from the trusts funds and therefore the trust is subsidising some fans travel to games which is not the objective of the trust.

So what is the answer? does the coach make a profit, breakeven or make a loss, and if it is a loss then why is the trust paying out money for this?

As the Company Secretary of a Supporters Club Trust, I see absolutely no reason why you have a period of time where you will not accept applications of membership. What justification can there be for this? Can you afford to turn new members away?

I hope that your Trust documentation is robust enough for scrutiny?

I would assume - but don't know - that it's part of the deal with Drivetime Coaches. I have often wondered in the past why a 52-seater is necessary for a dozen supporters. I can only guess the hiring charge is low enough to make it worthwhile choosing that over a minibus or similar. But either way I still think the supporters' coach is necessary as it enables people to travel who might not ordinarily be able to. Yes, numbers have been down this season as the football's been crap, but previously it's not been an issue.

Not necessarily. Let's take the scenario where we get a half-decent team together on the cheap and are challenging for the play-offs (however unlikely that may sound now). People come to watch a winning team, which is why numbers have dropped this season. I really don't think it matters what league we're in - if we're doing well, crowds will improve.

NO the cards ect offsets some of the losses the rest comes from the funds. Do you use the coach? I gather not by your reply.

Some members have no transport so to get to away game they need a coach, which we've always offered to our members

How do you know the objective of the trust if you're not a member
