Utter Rubbish

Recommended Posts

Yes - it will be a little disappointing if we dont make the play offs now - but there are numerous other teams in this league who would have expected to be where we are now, and arent, and who would gladly trade places with us. Look at sides like Weymouth and , in particular, Satanage, whose fans must have been expecting the playoffs after their strong recent run - now though, they are looking unlikely to make it and threw away a 3-1 lead yesterday.

ok, we werent at our best yesterday, but I wouldnt go as far as to say it was utter rubbish - FGR werent a bad team - their record of 2 wins and 12 draws in 21 away games backs that up. And had Colemans effort drifted just inside the far post rather than inches the other side, we'd probably be saying how great we were, getting 3 points. Thats how thin the dividing line is - and attitudes swing easily, particvularly at the moment, given our position.

Come tomorrow at quarter to five, we could all be saying what a wonderful team we are once again.

Like the Ryman winning season, we'll have our good and bad days - the 2 games against Canvey that year were a case in point - all on a high after winning there, and then thinking the title had gone when we lost at home. That year things finally fell in our favour - this year isnt so very different to that year - whether things finally fall in our favour this year, who knows, but I'm sure glad we're even considering that possibility at this stage of the season.

One other point - if anyone had said we'd effectively be just 4 points off Oxford at this stage of the season, most would have said "No chance" and sent you off to the loony bin - we are in that position and we really should be proud that we are where we are irrespective of the final outcome.

Come on, look at where we are in the table? On the verge of having enough? When seventh and still in with a shout of the play-offs in April? No wonder crowds are suffering. I recall you going off on one after a 2-0 reverse at home to Kettering a few years back, Richard. That was probably merited... they were awful, we were awful and we looked like going down. Compare the Fleet side that day and yesterday. Compare their positions and the potential of their players. How anyone can be on the verge of "having enough" is beyond me...!

I think we have been a wonderful team all season considering the limits we have as a club. Sometimes I don't think our performances have been wonderful but that's another thing. With the height of our team, plus their youth and speed I think we have been tactically wrong a lot of times. But that is a minor point in this season of many positives.

We still have a huge chance of making play offs but if we don't it might be next year or the year after. One thing that is for sure that it will happen if we can keep the nucleus of this squad.

Perhaps Richard, for his own well-being, should have made good his promise never to return to Stonebridge Road after that Kettering match, since it seems he can never be satisfied with the way things are going.

Anyone who gets angry in this manner if we don't reach the top five is highly deluded.

Just one win in five attempts over Forest Green at home now, with all the rest being draws. In light of this, perhaps yesterday's result wasn't a massive surprise. MacDonald's absence will always harm us to an extent, but as has been indicated, this was unlike several other occasions when we have dropped points at home this season, in that we didn't actually waste all that many clear opportunities (after all, Coleman's fine effort was the only time we really came close in the second half).

If we miss out on the top five it'll be a bit of a shame having been in fourth place for so long, but as Alan says, we should be proud of the team's achievements this year regardless of where we end up.

Also, it seems they'll be presented with the trophy on the last day of the season, which is something else for us to look forward to.

As an aside - when Keeling was announced as man of the match it caused a supporter to pass out and take a tumble down the terrace!

Good work by the surrounding supporters and Steve the steward to help sort the guy out - he left with his son and was OK except for a bruised back.

It's always amusing to see massive over-reaction - Richard does have a history of it - the Kettering incident and the "I'm not coming again if Tostao doesn't start every match" are particularly memorable.

We lacked a final ball yesterday - we'll play worse and win.

LD does seem to have sorted the defence out finally, a back 4 really does seem more solid.

Now he needs to address the midfield 4.

Playing 1 winger and 3 centre midfielders doesn't work that well, lacks width and pace and doesn't deliver killer crosses onto the box for the strikers to feed off.

As I have already said this morning, God morning, we have achieved this seasons goal and now anything else we do is a bonus. Although obviously I'm not saying that we shouldn't try.

I share your frustrations but so do many others, about 20 of them more than most. I maintain that we had no killer instinct, we missed Charlie, Charlie is our killer instinct. Charlie doesn't do all of the jobs on the pitch, when he scores nine times out of ten it isn't him who has created the chance and nor is it his job to. The chances are created by other players, those players were there today and they created but with out the experience of Charlie in the right place at the right time to bang the ball home.

I really want him to stay but at the same time perhaps it would be better if he went. When he doesn't play we lack something, his experience. The only way others like Sodje and Moore are going to get this experience is if they play. They're not going to if Charlie stays. Given the choice I'd want him to stay but imagine if in one year we're in the same position and he had stayed. All our players would be a year older living in Charlie Macdonald's shadow.

I'm very happy at the moment. This time last year I was thinking I could have done a better job than Liam, this season I'm not so confident. Everyones a football manager.

He's just getting mellow in his old age, Hirsty!

Just wait 'til he gets to our age - he might even agree with me!!

Seriously, the most frustrating thing about this seasonis that D&R excepted , when we play our high tempo fluid passing game, we are probably the best team

in the league.

We just need to do it more frequently.

So we are sitting three points off of 5th place with a game in hand, we have just played three games in a week and scored five conceding only one picking up seven points in the process and you are 'on the verge of having enough'.

No matter what anyone says you are no more overreacting than those Dagenham supporters who are giving up on the club because they didn't sew the league up in March.

It is perfectly understandable that you are 'bored with it all at the moment', year after year its the same old challenging for a place in the play-offs yawn!

I nearly fell asleep during the second half yesterday, I probably would have if it wasn't for the constant clatter of toys being thrown out of a pram just behind me. I didn't see who tossed them out but I have a fair idea who the t*sser might be.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and the constructive criticism and debate around formation & line ups etc is always interesting, but to just get on the team with a thread that starts like this is unbelievable.

I know we are desperate for bigger crowds but surely "supporters?!" that like we can do without.

The Truth put it all in context with the previous post, superb!

Anyone would have taken this position at the start of the season, now we are on the verge we all need to get behind the club for the final push.

Whatever happens it has been a great season.

COME ON!

Today Forest Green scored a 4-4 home draw against Stevenage. Along with being a big surprise (mainly, judging on Saturday's game, that they could either score or concede 4 goals) this also explains why they caused such problems for us on Saturday.
