Utter Rubbish

Recommended Posts

Agreed, Rich. The only positive was Sodje.

Why he doesn't start more games only God and LD knows.

As for our midfield, I didn't even realise Quinn was playing until well into the second half.

He has stopped doing the simple things well, and is doing little to justify his continued guaranteed place.

4-4-2 does give us more balance, but with it we need much more tempo, industry and creativity from the centre midfield 2.

We should now perm 2 from Long, Coleman, Debolla and Slatter + 2 wide men if we are to have any chance of a play off place.

Harsh judgement!

RGR are no mugs and their mid table position demonstrates that fact. We seemed to rely on too many long balls lofted over the mid field. The passing today was erratic and we were far too hesitant and looking for somebody else to do the finishing; alas he wasn't playing... Life without Charlie seems a bit of a challenge.

For whats its worth. Sogje had a good game and run his heart out. He won a lot of balls that shouldn't have been won. Thought the back four had a good game. Typical though, my player of the season, Sasha makes one mistake in a long time and gets punished. I thought we were very predictable and that made it easy to defend against. FGR actually passed the ball better than us. This route one football is starting to pee me off a little now. At the end we were pumping it up high to Keeling?????? Cronin throw the bloody ball out!!!! Quinn, well I am going to shut up about him as I do not want to be seen as anti Fleet. At the end of the day it was a point. But these perfomances aint going to get neutrals interested.

Neither am I wholly anti Quinn. I just do not any player (MacDonald excepted) having a seemingly guaranteed starting spot. Quinn played really well until Xmas, his form has dropped off, which has co-incided with our overall form.

He shoild not be excempted from being rested.

As for Keelo, I was standing on the small side terrace, therefore Had a great view of his second half performance. Too often he ran into dead ends and failed to deliver a final pass.

Moore, as I predicted with absolute certainty, came on at about 83 minutes, which was, as usual, far, far too late to make a major impact.

I was there too CG and agree with you. Keeling and long work really well together but I just think we ran out of ideas. We are a very good passing team when we play along the ground but there semms to be something missing up front. I'm a huge fan of Sogje, Chukki impresses me by the minute, Moore I'm not convinced of but I still feel we need a big, big target man for those corners and crosses.

I realise that this is the bee in your personal bonnet C.G. (and we all have them of course) but with two early substitutions being forced on us by injuries surely you aren't suggesting that Liam should have used his only remaining substitution earlier and risked playing the rest of the game with ten men.
I make you right about Quinn though and I thought Keeling put in an awful lot of effort but ultimately with little impact. Why did we play the first half with right footed Long on the left and left footed Keeling on the right?

Moore had to come on no later than 75 minutes, risky or not.

This was a must win game.

Plays offs have slipped from being in our hands to depending on the results of our rivals.

It was interesting to see McCarthy showing more energy in the last 10 minutes than Quingny, when he pushed forward to hlp our attack.

My biggest bee in my bonnet is our is our apparent inability to adapt to different match scenarios, either by way of game play or tactical substitutions.

For example, even without injuries, who would have expected to see Moore on the pitch before the 80th minute.

I disagree to an extent CG. We have enough about us to go from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2 easily enough as happened at half-time... Daish could have gone for the easy James Smith for Ross Smith option, and kept our shape, but instead stuck Coleman on to give us a bit more attacking edge.

And I'm not sure Moore is that effective coming off the bench. I wasn't exactly screaming for him to replace Chukki or Sodje and an earlier swap would have made little difference to the outcome I think. Perhaps we could have shuffled our pack a bit more and gone 3-4-3 with Moore on, or even stuck James Smith up front to pose more of an aerial threat.

Todays result was no more than I expected. I even got it right in the prediction league. Looking at FGRs recent results they're not the greatest team, but they're no mugs. Beat Oxford, drew with Dagenham, but lost to Morecambe. We out played Halifax on Tuesday and held long periods of possession in the first half today, but lost our way in the second half. We had the best of the chances, but didn't capitlise on them. Our finishing came down to one thing, we missed Charlie up front. Sodje wants to be a 20+ a season goal scorer and maybe will be, however, Eribenne isn't. He holds the ball up, he create chances, he gets in amongst defences, but his finishing needs to be developed.

Not a surprise result today, just a minor set back. We still look like possible play-off contenders. Fair play to FGR, they're sure they'll be playing in the Conference next season and we may be too. The next few games will tell.

Congratulations to Dagenham. Nice to see an ex-Ryman League club make the step up to the Football League. Let's hope that we're not to far behind them.

Haven't read all of this thread, can't be bothered I know how it's going to go.

I don't think we were utterly rubbish today, the ball didn't quite run for us. When we needed the ball to land at a players feet two yards from goal it didn't.

We lacked killer instinct in front of goal, a little unfortunate I admit but no great lose. The thing of concern for me at the moment is the safety and well being of one Ross Smith.

Well done Ross, get well soon.

Ok maybe a typical over exaggeration by myself, but if i get wound up how on earth does the newcomer feel?

How did we lack killer instinct when we had no chances to kill?!

We created **** all, all game and when/if we did i must have been asleep.

Im on the verge of having enough. I like a tough tackling, hard working midfield etc. Why did WE have no effort in the last 10 minutes when we needed it to make the playoffs. Do the players really want to play at Wembley of for us in general?

All Q's i have been asking mysefl and i have no idea what the answers are to be honest - just bored of it alll at the moment.

Why when we get what seemed a bumper crowd do we perform so badly and not capture the imagnation of the 'newbie' to come back?

So many Q's/gripes - but im trying not to overreact! honest.

We could easily have lost today.

If we go out all gun-ho then it won't get us anywhere. Some players have to be reserved and stay back. We must remain calm in such circumstances. As I have already said this morning, God morning, we have achieved this seasons goal and now anything else we do is a bonus. Although obviously I'm not saying that we shouldn't try.

I share your frustrations but so do many others, about 20 of them more than most. I maintain that we had no killer instinct, we missed Charlie, Charlie is our killer instinct. Charlie doesn't do all of the jobs on the pitch, when he scores nine times out of ten it isn't him who has created the chance and nor is it his job to. The chances are created by other players, those players were there today and they created but with out the experience of Charlie in the right place at the right time to bang the ball home.

I really want him to stay but at the same time perhaps it would be better if he went. When he doesn't play we lack something, his experience. The only way others like Sodje and Moore are going to get this experience is if they play. They're not going to if Charlie stays. Given the choice I'd want him to stay but imagine if in one year we're in the same position and he had stayed. All our players would be a year older living in Charlie Macdonald's shadow.

I'm very happy at the moment. This time last year I was thinking I could have done a better job than Liam, this season I'm not so confident. Everyones a football manager.
