Slough game comments

Margate were poor. We should have lost by a big margin but for Slough missing a number of chances. Two more sendings-off into the bargain.

We mucked about with the system again. It was 4-3-3 most of the first half with Jackson and Pinnock very wide and Hockton getting no service apart from the occasional long ball.

Slough nearly gave away an own goal when a defender hit the post, which was about as close as we came before the break, unless you count Jackson’s long-range effort which the keeper saved.

Second half it was just a case of how long until Slough went ahead, as we seemed incapable of threatening until Haworth came on.

Protheroe was sent to the right of the 3-man midfield, with Standen central (and he’s a left back don’t forget). Saunders was only interested in his personal battle with their no.11 which got him sent off in the end.

The first goal was a good strike by Miller.

The mass brawl followed after Pinnock got in a tangle with their no.10. That resulted in dismissals for Saunders and his oppo, plus another couple of bookings.

The only two gate players not involved in the fight were Sappleton, who was sent off after an awful challenge shortly afterwards, and Mitten who got himself a yellow in the aftermath of that incident.

Pinnock was taken off to allow Smith into central defence.

Hockton’s free kick over the wall into the top corner was a delight.

We pushed hard for the winner at the end, but it would have been an injustice.

Player ratings:

Mitten 6 – a fumble in the first half, but otherwise sound.

Oates 6 – fairly solid.

Donovan 5 – ok but too much of the big hoof to nobody in particular.

Sappleton 4 – not his best game; silly boy with that tackle.

Skinner 5 – managed not to get noticed in the melee.

Protheroe 6 – we were poorer in the middle without him.

Standen 4 – the management seem to think he is doing a good job in midfield. I disagree.

Saunders 4 – some good touches, but was more interested in his vendetta. Exit no surprise.

Jackson 4 – playing a long way forward. Too many bad passes.

Pinnock 4 – did not achieve much, but then again was asked to play right, then middle, then right again before being taken off. Not a happy bunny.

Hockton 6 – superb goal. Still my player of the season.

Subs:

Haworth 7 – a well taken goal, and some other good work. Much better than his earlier showings.

Smith 6 – did a good job in central defence. I would prefer to see him and Trott rather than JD/Trott when Sap is suspended.

We started the season as a skilled, disciplined team who could take on anybody.

We are ending it as a disorganised ill-disciplined rabble, who can make a side look good that has scored 0 and conceded 29 in their previous 6 games.

It is too late to change. We are not going up, and we are in for a drubbing on Monday. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Rob Haworth my MOTM - had passion and drive and deserved his goal and unlucky with what could have been a winner too. Apart from that - we seem to have lost the plot. I will be so annoyed when we finish 6th behind those cheating bar-stewards AFC Pantsdowntakeitupthearse.

Touch of the rabid mob, Gringo, lots of abuse of players and management. You know, the really motivational stuff when everyone needs it most.

Anyway, that's my lot for the week, until Monday is over and we have a normal game to look forward to.

See y'all later.

What i can`t believe is why Rob Haworth had all the passion and commitment and the bloke ain`t played for almost 4 months until he came to Margate, that is not a good sign about the rest of the squad , wherever or whatever the players will be doing next season no one know`s but this sort of laidback can`t be bothered approach won`t get them anywhere as to moving on or looking to be in a higher league with another club . Who will want them . Have to say this as well not looking forward to Monday as i should be ,reason being where not commited as a team and Ramshite are ,this is why they`ve done so well and we have not , but, Up the Gate anyway.

Some of us fans went to Trotty for different reasons.Mainly for tinkering with the team, ridiculous substitutions considering we were trying to WIN the game & not hang on for the point at 1-1 & for failing to motivate the team to go & win this game.It was well within them to do so but all failed miserably.Frustration gets to some people because they KNOW how good this team has been & can be.I am not ashamed of voicing my opinions & when there are TWO managers on the sidelines who can't get the team up for it or see wheres its going wrong on the field then something is desperately wrong. The players need to show much much more than they are doing at the moment.Ramsgate WILL wipe the floor with us if we continue to just go through the motions & not WORK for results.

Haworth showed them all what commitment can do.Chased everything & got a goal out of nothing. Well played Robert.

Standen clearly threw a punch & was most fortunate to have been overlooked by the referee,it was clearly seen by the assessor in the crowd though. Maybe he was lucky today as were another 15 of them out there. Sappleton got booked when he was one of a few NOT involved in the melee.Consequently committed a serious tackle & the referee then had no choice but to dismiss him.

We need to sort things out before Monday or else!

Trotty has done himself no favours today whatsoever & up till now I have fought his corner. If he cant get them up for Monday then his days are numbered I'm afraid & I'm losing patience with his blindfold attitude. Sad because he started his carreer in management in the best possible way.The players are equally as guilty as he though.

I too will say no more until after Monday. Lets hope he can turn things round & stop messing about with the players & their positioning.Put players out there that DESERVE to be out there & play them in the positions that clearly they are comfortable with & where they can show their best.

Today the Slough fans showed how to support your football team and thier team gave them passion and commitment. The few so called Margate fans abused the players and manager and the players responded by showing a lack of commitment (Rob Haworth was the one exception). I hope those so called fans were proud of thier behaviour today.

Must say I didn't notice the bad behaviour of MFC fans. Shame because we are not 'that sort of club'.

However the poor performances came first and the fans' reaction afterwards, so you can't really say the abuse caused the poor play.

On the subject of Sappleton's red, I was pretty sure he hadn't been booked previously, and yet the ref showed a yellow then red. I wondered if one was for the tackle and one for the follow-up?

Exactly right Chris.Something that should be noted before others put down genuine, sincere & passionate fans behaviour.Besides they were only venting their anger & disgust at some classic underachieving. Some are not as tolerant as others. Ashamed at the time? No I was not!!!!! But in hindsight probably not the "nicest" thing to do.

Well I was ashamed to try and explain to other supporters from another club about the behaviour of some fans.

I was brought up to represent myself and what I stood for in public and that in my humble opinion was not acceptable behavoiur in public today.

Good night.

No-one tells you how to behave so shut the [****!!****] up.Allow others the right to show their feelings in the way that they wish to.Its not a normal occurrence so don't try & make out it is.

Even so we should'nt have accted like hooligens. Margate are not a bunch of hooligens and we should'nt accept that behaviour no matter how disgraceful we played, we should have taken it as a lesson and learned from it and improve. I understand why alot of us were annoyed but we should have held our head up high and given the team structual critism and support, thats the only way that the team are going to improve knowing how we see them playing and that they have our support. i know alot of you will disagree and say that they dont deserve our support but if we do not support them then they are not going to want to play for Margate.

Overall a disappointing performance today and the red cards we did not need at all.

In terms of fan's reactions, I think those who voiced their anger were severely frustrated when we went 2-1 behind, perhaps justified; perhaps not but they needed to vent their frustrations, but come Monday we MUST get behind the team completely with our support as we look for victory and local pride. We must not let the Rams fans out-do us with their support.

Now that is a sensible post MFC. Well done! Entirely agree. Monday is a different day against our local rivals & I for one begin that day hoping to see an improvement & to see us triumph over the rednecks.None of us will NOT be behind the team on Monday I'm sure.
