Italian Police...

Recommended Posts

After hearing about what happened in the Roma v Man United game last night, I had to watch the highlights, and couldnt believe what I saw.

I had been listening to people talking about it on the radio, and they were describing it as disgraceful and at times horrific. I don't disagree.

I dont know what anyone else thinks about this, but I think the Italian police really do not have a clue how to control a football game.

Apparently that is the way they deal with football games every Sunday afternoon. If that is the case, its an outrage, and needs to be stopped.

Repeatedly hitting supporters over the head with truncheons is not going to help matters is it???

11 supporters in hospital because of this. Luckily none with serious injuries...

I think we should open a debate about this (a sensible football topic for once), and see what everyone else thinks...

I would also be interested to hear what Coachie thinks of this all. Do you condone it all?

Your views please... tongue

Looking at today's papers, it appears the Italian police were not all wearing uniforms!!!!

By that I mean some are wearing Jeans and some are wearing combat trousers, the only thing they all had in common was the jackets, helmets and batons.

Begs the question, were they proper police or reservists/hired thugs? Reminds me of the "B" Specials in Ulster in the 50s & 60s.

Taken from Wikipedia.... B Specials - part-time, usually on duty for one evening per week and serving under their own command structure, and unpaid, although they had a generous system of allowances.

I cant see how Coachie would be proud to be Italian. You can deal with aggro without having to be violent.

In England, the police would have just stood between the two sets of fans and preventing them getting at each other.

Besides, there was a strong sheat of fencing preventing either of the fans getting at each other, so why get violent?

I think it may get to the stage where ALL Italian football is played behind closed doors, or on neutral venues.

Which will be a BIG shame...

It's perfectly possible to be proud of your nationality even though your fellow country men/women are behaving atrociously.

e.g. The dispicable actions of the IRA didn't prevent me being proud of being Irish, anymore than the majority of peace loving Brits being proud to be British whilst hating those "Ingurland" shouting drunken louts smashing up town centres during just about every football tournament held on foreign soil since '66

lads, you know my opinion about it.i went to see england-italy in 1997 world cup qualifier, with my nephews, brother in law and with 70000 england fans around me.i wasn't drunk,i behaved, didn't insult anyone and watched a great football match wearing an italian hat. i celebrated in the right manner when Zola scored and shooked hands with supporters around me at the final whistle and went home without anyone trying to stab me or a steward hitting me in the head.that's what every football loving supporter should do.the rest is all paper propaganda to sell more newspapers and the telly is as guilty as them.we are all guilty because give importance to some of this morons that ruin a football game.

i don't usually stick up for italians but on this occassion i will say this, man utd fans are some of the worse in the country and especially at london games where thousands cause havoc before/during and after the games, many do not have tickets to the games but go to the pubs and hang around just to cause trouble/mainly cockney reds who are in fairness hated by most true manc fans.Last night the trouble flared because the italians starting running to the fence when they scored, the united fans didn't like it and started to charge at the roma fans, the united fans could of just stood there and the problem would of gone away but they didn't and charged. Then when united scored the fans started goading the roma fans.If the united fans controlled themselves then there wouldn't of been a problem we all know what the roma fans are like they have had problems for years but if you go abroad watching your team and step out of line once then you will get punished. What we all seem to forget is people have long memories and it was only 25 years ago when due to the actions of english football fans 39 people died, can we really blame people for harsh treatment when we have a past like that.

Sorry Trenks, totally disagree here mate...

I think the whole thing is bollox. Whether its Man United Fans, Arsenal Fans, Southend United, Burnham Ramblers, AFC Hornchurch fans, or Aliens.

Its all the same for me...

Its about consistency and doing whats right. What happened last night was BANG out of order.

Something needs to be sorted.

Hookey - stop picking at peoples posts. I am sure Coachie is a proud Italian, as much as I am proud to be English. But he can't have been happy with his country after last night.

UM - Use some paragraphs. I cant be assed to read your post grin

Always makes me laugh at the media hyperbole that is dished out following a tear up at football. We condone shooting a few ragheads but if it kicks off outside/inside a ground then the world as we know it is suddenly due for implosion.

As far as the Italians are concerned, Heysel still sticks in the craw and any English fan is fair game.

To paraphrase Winston Churchill at the start of WWI when the Germans marched into Belgium...... 'What would I have done in their position'.

What do you mean stop picking at people's posts, it's called debate.

I'm sure he wasn't happy, that doesn't mean he has to be ashamed.
