can't be arsed with going through the whole thread so someone has probably said the answer already but it is my understanding that you get rice with pathia/dhansak because this is how it is actually served in Persia.

curries in india and other regions tend to be served with bread and vegetable dish and most curries are not very saucy like they are in this country.Rice is considered a side dish more than part of the main meal
