A halifax Perspective

Poor marking and positioning cost us two soft goals imo and with Gravesend having the wind behind them in the first half they put us under a lot of pressure forcing a succession of corners which caused all sorts of problems with some desperate punched clearances from Mawson.

Cracking save by thier keeper from a Forrest header in the first two minutes.

Tom Kearney - ill ? - was sorely missed but having siad that credit where credit is due it was Billy's best performance to date. Stamp maybe should have done better with a header in the first half but popped it just over the bar but in truth we never really threatened the Gravesend goal in either half with Torpey and Kileen having quiet and fairly un-productive games imo.

Thought Thompson and Doughty tried thier best to take the team forward with Buzz in particular putting in some good crosses and balls into the channel.

Gravesend not a good side by any means but had just enough in all areas of the pitch to tak e the 3 points.

Funny, for a not very good side, we seem to have won a fair few matches.

Doughty had a great first half, but we seem to have lost the ability to score. We played all the football last night but, again, no cutting edge in the last third.

The last third being the entire pitch. It looked well forked though.

The best moment from last night goes to one of two.

First, Charlies shot in the sceond half that went just wide, it was very close and as it hit the wall behind and was going fast it looked like it had gone in. I liked the way the Stonebridge Road side thought the ball had gone in. applause

Second, the 50/50 draw announcement, the second one. "Zero, zero, zero, zero, five. Great moment.

I thought Halifax did play a bit of football last night and looked good when they ran with the ball. Trouble for them was that they then did nothing with it and I thought never really looked like they would score.

I did not think it a great game with both sides playing too much hit and hope but I don't care that much as long as we keep getting the reults for the next 6 games.

I also heard that Charlie is off to Scallingham. I assume we would want a more than decent fee if true as Charile has got 18 months of contract left yet has he not?

Highlight last night for me was being allowed behind the goal for a change to see the decent shots we had on or just off target in the second half.

Scally was in attendance again along with Geoff Clarke.

I didn't think it was a great game but a great 3 points. Excellent save (tip over) from Cronin early doors but apart from that he was hardly troubled. Thought the defence looked more solid with Hawkins back and Chukki, whilst his hold up play was not as impressive as the first time I saw him his heading ability for any number of flick-ons was excellent. Corners with the help of the wind fist half very good. Biggest concern was again the number of missed chances, it didnt cost us last night but all the while there was only 1 goal in it it was far from comfortable. Its great to be creating them but we probably need to stick a higher percentage away (what was Debolla trying to do ?).

I thought Halifax were very poor and on that performance justified why they are where they are. On another subject. Sachas Hair? Could he be a Michelle Collins a gram. Finally, totty running up and down the line. Am I the only person who thought the lineswoman was fit?

My personal highlight from last night was hearing the unlikely sound of Thom Yorke's 'Harrowdown Hill' over the tannoy as I entered the ground.

Understandably, this song was slipped out nice and early (just after 6:30pm) so as not to scare too many people.

It was nice to see us make a sustained spell of pressure at home (i.e. the first quarter of an hour or so) count for the first time in a long while - and also to dispatch a team in relegation trouble fairly comfortably. Pleasingly, the complexion of our season has changed markedly from only a week ago.

I missed that. All I heard was a lot of rave/dance music that made me think the entire press box was off its nuts on speed.

Dear Stu

Love to Madge. Just a point of note. The press box(designed and built by Maurice the Magnificent) is totally separate from the PA booth. I can't speak for what was going on in the PA booth but the press box was, as usual, off it's rocker last night mainly due to the over abundant supply of tea created from a 1974 tea bag strained through one of Kenny Burrett's old jock straps. Lord Chas.

Ah, y'see, it's been a while since I ventured over there and you hear all sorts of confusing jargon ('media centre', 'Lord Webster's manor', 'communications suite', 'command fuhrerbunker')... so I just assumed you were all sniffing Class-A drugs and listening to rave music at half-time.

So it was only in the PA booth that was happening?

I can't possibly comment as we were all off our faces in the press box. But there was some bootylicious babe action going on behind the steamed up windows of the PA booth where Grandmaster Wheels of Steel King McQueen(aka Graham the announcer)was giving it large after mainlining on the smell of printing ink from our programme.
