Margate 0-0 Billericay

Recommended Posts

Not a particularly interesting game of football it has to be said, but a very fair result id say. Neither team had many chances and the wind played a big part, completely hindering whoever was playing into it. Consequently we had much the better of the first half, and Margate much the better of the second.

Cant really remember any chances worth recalling, although that might be to do with the cider smile. Im sure someone will give a much better match report than me soon.

Support was great, singing all the way through, plus attacking the ad hoardings with shoes (still not sure why). Same again on Saturday please.

Team: Worster, McSweeney, Heffer, Blewitt, Kerrigan, Whelpdale, Hunter, Game, Dormer, Flack, Burbridge.

PS, many thanks to Steve for his kind gesture with laying on the coach. Its much appreciated by all.

PPS, We are top of the league! (until friday :))

Shoe shoe shoe army!!!

Good effort from the lads tonight, wind made a mockery of any attempts to play passing football - game was just as likely to be settled by a howler as a moment of quality in my opinion. We had the best chances with two headers from Joe first half that were saved by their keeps, but other than that can't remember either keeper making any saves.

Worster

McSweeney Swaine Heffer Kerrigan

Whelps Hunter Game Dormer

Flack Burbs

Subs

Blewitt for Swaine (slight knock)

Wareham for Burbs

We were far superior to Margate for most of the game: all over them in the first half / second half was more even.
Margate hardly looked like scoring (even with the wind!) – Hockton didn’t feature / Sappleton tripped over his own feet and Trotty lived up to his name…
this was a great result for us – we are top of the division – credit where it’s due!!!

I agree that the wind was the major factor in the game. I thought over the 90 we were slightly the better side but clear cut chances were at a premium.

With Bromley drawing, it's a good result for us in terms of a play-off place and we have after all gone top of the league. I think we need Chelmo to win on Friday now to have a realistic chance of top spot.

MOTM for me was McSweeney, solid in defence and attacked well down the flanks.

Difficult to judge how we'd have fared without the wind conditions but I got the impression that Margate didn't have an awful lot to offer.

After dominating the wind assisted first half we had to soak up a fair bit of pressure early in the second. But once we got the measure of it the Margate threat lessened and we had a few good chances. I enjoyed the Flack v. Sapleton tussle and on another day with another ref I think Joe may have got one or two decisions against Sapleton.

Does that wind always howl like that down there? Not a lot of protection from it, so you'd think Margate may have handled it better.

Nice welcome though, just a shame we didn't sneak a winner as I think they were very beatable.

No the wnd does not always howl like that but it was NNE straight of the North Sea so nothing you can do about it. To give you some idea last night it was gusting up to 35mph whereas this morning it is about 8mph.

Glad you liked the welcome nice to have fans like you down here (even if you come from essex) you are always welcome.

Agree Joseba, sods law wind dropped today! Have to say despite the wind a most enjoyable atmosphere thanks to the travelling Billericay fans. You are a credit to your club, even had the pleasure to meet Gazza in the bar afterwards. As we both said a shame the wind spoiled the game as a spectacle. Good luck with your promotion push.

Sorry, for me the wind was a major factor and ruined the game as a spectacle. When the ball was on the ground, we were the superior side and the balance of chances to take the lead showed that in my opinion.

Even though we were the better team and the lads did well under poor conditions, I would file this game under "wind assisted" non event.

I thought a draw was a fair result as, neither team really showed how good they are. Billericay were getting it into the final third, but created very little, which was the same for us in the second-half. We lost our way when we brought on Howarth for Bagley midway in the second half as we changed the formation when i thought it wasn't necessary.

You and us both jl. I'm sure the Clarets will give it their best shot (more for our OWN advantage than your goodselves). But pessimistic or not, I fear that H & R may well give us a demonstration of how to grind out a result when the going gets tough. If Hampton get anything out of this game, then I would think they will eventually become (worthy) champions, and consign both Ricay and the Clarets to the lottery of the playoffs.

I have to say that was a hard and well earned point. Yes the wind did play a part but i genuinely thought we controlled the game in a positive manner. Remember we have just gone to another promotion contenders ground and imo taken the game to them So i say WELL DONE lads -

Also, cheers to TC for Towns R us buses grin. Appreciated.

As for the shoe escapade....Jeez lads we are nutters!

Cheers to Margate for not stopping the fun too wink
