The same point was being made at Langford. After hearing all the new FA guidelines for gradings it seems quite a few of the Prem clubs don't even make the grade.

Apparently the FA Cup requirements will exclude majority of step 5 teams!

I was talking to the FA person at our ground grading yesterday about this. He said that the CCL were forced to weed out the clubs who hadn't upgraded to their required standard last summer as they had a high intake of ex Ryman div Two teams. They had given their clubs 2 years notice about the requirements, but some hadn't bothered so were relegated to Div One. Our league don't appear to have done this yet (as far as I know), but they may be forced to do a similar thing if grounds aren't up to the new FA standards.

Maurice has resigned at Stony.

All Stony have done in their bid to gain promotion is put some disgusting looking blue stuff around their pitch and are building a path that goes up to a jointly owned car park that backs off from the high street (capacity of about 10 cars max).

This has been done in the last 2 weeks (not 1st April).

They could not build changing rooms any nearer to the pitch as it is on a secondary flood plain and they would spend half the season under water. It is not Stony's cup success that leaves them with fixture pile ups every year!

The present away changing room is only suitable for a under 11's 5 a side team and it is indeed many miles away from the pitch.

I can not see how they have been granted permission on this basis. Surely the SSML has some standards for its premier clubs?

Does anyone know how many teams are due to get promotion? In the MK Citizen it says 2 but rumour has it 4 or 5 clubs from the prem wish to go up which would make room for more (grounds permitting).

Only the top team is guaranteed promotion from the Prem. A few had applied, but most (apart from Edgware & Hertford) have withdrawn their applications.

All it says in the last minutes about the various teams applying for promotion to the Prem is that the situation will be discussed at the relevant time.

Ludicrous.

I spoke to Maurice yesterday to tell him that our 'home' game with them on 21 April will be taking place at Buckingham Athletic, he didn't mention anything about this and seemed to be playing his cards close to his chest.

So the SSML have said yes to Stony getting promotion but they have out a big piece in the local paper saying they have plans to make the ground up to Standard. They state it is a Dream so how can the SSML agree promotion on a dream !!!!!! see the extract below from the MK Citizen, Surely we can all dream about ground improvements does that make us eligible for the move upwards

Stony's £1million dream

STONY Stratford Town Football Club have revealed exciting and ambitious plans for a £1million development of their Ostler's Lane ground and have called on the local community to throw their full support behind the club.

The Molten Spartan South Midlands League Division One side have enjoyed an extremely successful season this term and, having already reached two cup finals, they are now looking to secure promotion to the SML Premier Division.

If they were to achieve that goal, then the current Toombes Field site will need substantial work if they are to maintain their status as a Premier League club.

The proposals for the site include a new 250-seater stand, a brand new astro-turf pitch and new clubhouse that will contain a 3,000 sq ft bar, new changing facilities and a small gym. However, all this doesn't come cheaply and £1million will be needed to help them realise their dream.

The club plans to raise £250,000 in private sponsorship with grants from the FA, Sport England and instutional funds making up the rest of the money needed.

Stony are now after the support of Milton Keynes Council and the overall community to make these plans happen and speaking to the Citizen, Stony's chairman Kevin Gallagher said: "I got involved in the club because of its friendly and family atmosphere.

"Combine this with the aspirations of the coach, Craig Connell, a young talented and enthusiastic team, the strong community in Stony Stratford and a new business approach, the club will be able to move from strength to strength.

"We will also focus on the toddlers through to youth teams and galvanise the family through active involvement in football.

"There has to be credit given to the long serving members of the Club who have created this great atmosphere.

"Let's hope the team can now finish the season with the form that they have shown throughout it to secure the promotion they deserve."

So promotion will be on the basis they get it up to standard within the next 5 years?

  • 3 weeks later...

Congratulations today to Stony Stratford Town who beat us 4-0 however they will be the first to admit that the scoreline flattered them considerably, they caught us cold in the first half and led 4-0 at the interval including an own goal and two penalties. The second half was a different story however and we were all over them like a rash without being able to make a breakthrough, one could see why they have had such a successful campaign reaching two cup finals however they are no Worldbeaters and their game is built around a workmanklike defence and an old fashioned stopper centre half.

clip Rods, when was the last time that Kentish Town were actually beaten by the better side? Has it occurred to you that "the second half was a different story" because they had done what they needed to in the first half and there was no need to extend themselves any further? I'm sure they could probably have stepped up another gear if they needed to. Pity they didn't, as my 6-0 prediction would probably have come off.

No that wasn't the case at all, they were out five minutes early for the second half and I've never seen a team so up for it, they were obviously looking to improve their goal difference being hot on the heels of Cockfosters and Ampthill Town however they got the shock of their lives and had we put all our chances away we might have pulled the four goal deficit back.

No we didn't but earned a lot of admiration from Stony Stratford and their Committee were hugely complimentary about us as a Club saying that our heart is in the right place and we do everything right.

Yes, I'm sure everyone will want to wish Maurice good luck for the future, he has done a great job over many years. It was very flattering to be asked to step into his shoes last week by the Ostlers Lane hierarchy however due to the distance involved it would be an impossibility for me particularly as I don't drive.

so it wasnt because you are involved in a the project that you think is going places at KTFC that you never wanted to leave - it was because you dont drive, I do hope your players read this forum.

3praise - Not at all, nobody is indispensible and I can at least listen to offers from other Club's the same as 'the great one' has been of late. I was only pointing out that Stony Stratford Town would be a non starter for me because it is so far out of London where I'm born and bred, I would be like a duck out of water out in the sticks in a place like Stony Stratford where you only need to sneeze and everyone knows about it.
