Wivenhoe pubs

Recommended Posts

For those lucky enough to venture to the northern limits (or thereabouts) of our fine county let me tell you about the drinking establishments in the wonderful village of Wivenhoe.

1. The Flag - Ok but felt a little stared out when I was last in there during the summer. Closest to the ground.

2. The Horse & Groom, dubbed the 'Doom & Gloom' due to its quiet, locals nature. Decent for a drink but a little uninspiring from what I remember.

3. Park House Hotel. I think that's what it's called. Never liked it and rarely visited. I seem to recall there was photos of naked people on the wall, though that was a number of years ago.

4. The Greyhound. Good pub for a drink and opposite the local Indian restaurant, which once was bloomin' good though sadly when I last went two years ago it had gone drastically downhill. Shame really.

5. The Station. Only went in there as part of the 'Wiv Run'. Seemed alright.

6. The Black Bouy. More of an eating place, though nice atmosphere and fine if you fancy a nibble as it does good food, but tiny drinking area.

7. The Rose & Crown. Great little pub on the quay if you can find it. Lovely area to sit outside if it's warm, which I often did whilst 'revising' for exams.

The only non-charging cash machine from what I remember is at the Co-op (near pub no. 3).

Keep an eye out for the 'penis trees' which can be found a couple of houses down from the Park House Hotel. Still make me laugh.
