Come now, chaps. Let's put this Man U score prediction in context. Every Saturday Matt Davison, the BBC Radio Kent Sports Editor, asks his football correspondents who are covering games around the country, to predict the score of three games he choses at random. He runs this "prediction league" throughout the season with some kind of complicated Duckworth Lewis co efficient applied to work out a winner.

This week he chose Man U v Blackburn, West Ham v Middlesborough and Newcastle v Man City. My predictions were 3-1, 2-0 and 1-1 respectively, so I got the West Ham score totally correct, the Man U result correct but not the final score and the Magpies v City hopelessly wrong.

This season Iffy Onura and Jamie Reid are top of the league so far with me in the chasing pack, but I did win it for the boys in red and white last season!!

Trust me I have no interest in Man U, and Spurs will beat Reading 27-0 tomorrow with Berbatov getting a record breaking 25 and Robinson two from goal kicks.

QUOTE 1 "Two further points - getting sick and tired of opposition players [****!!****] about on the floor as though they've been shot then carrying on again. Every week!"

QUOTE 2 : "Played them off the park without really looking dangerous. Gave them 2 chances from which they score - good save from Evans near the end; can't remember their Keeper having to make a save apart from a couple of punches."

QUOTE 3 : "The match itself wasn't very good. City looked unbalanced against a reasonable Gravesend team who took 2 of their 3 chances.

Didn't get the greatest view (post obscured my view) of the first handball but it looked a stonewall. The Gravesend player seemed to actually make a deliberate movement towards the ball, not simply ball to hand. The second half handball looked less clearcut. Percentage-wise the ref did well and I only counted 3 wrong decisions, problem was that 2 of them were big ones. As for the twerp running the line on the main stand side, that idiot should give up now. Quite how someone can give offside when the player starts running from 8-10 yards inside his own half is a disgrace. The number of foul throws not picked up was also poor.

Not impressed by visiting Gravesend dignities who I believe got warned about their conduct by the safety officer. Just before half-time one of their players was rolling around and was invited to get up by a number of City fans around us. Instead of just ignoring this banter, some of the Gravesend supporters (directors?) got up, turned around and started gesturing aggresively. I thought it was about to kick off until both Sophie and Jason intervened. Jason headed to Gravesend's motley crew while Sophie came over to the City aggro and quickly the situation calmed.

Chatted to one of their players (a defender) post match and he was surprised how easy the match was. He expected a lot more from us in attack. He also thought that they had benefitted from refereeing decisions and laughed when I mentioned the first half handball so I guess he knew it was a penalty too".

QUOTE 4 : "We've just been beaten by one of the most tin-pot of tin-pot clubs"

QUOTE 5 : "Gravesend were a decent team but did the simple things right and we did not".

QUOTE 6 : "Awful today, probably the first time I have seen City this season fail to compete which was incredibly disappointing. G&N were an alright team - physically strong, workmanlike but nothing special. They won't make the play offs, I'm pretty confident of that. They had just 2 or 3 chances all game - and came away with a 2-0 win that was never difficult for them"

All taken from the York message board which requires registration even to view, so thought I'd cut & paste them here. Love Quote 4 & lets make sure we now prove quote 6 wrong.

Other queries - was it handball (I find it hilarious that in one breath he says he couldnt see clearly, yet in the next says it was "stonewall"!)? And what was the furore in the stand that the guy mentions?

The journey up to York was well worth it! A fantastic result that, in my mind, keeps us with a chance of reaching the play-offs, were 7 pts off play-offs before yesterday, now 5 pts, with a game in hand over those in the play-off positions.

Up the Fleet!

There's a lot of truth in there - not that I'd know about the allegations in quote 3 or the handball(s). Not a vintage performance, but a heroic rearguard display, with all our defenders having fine games.

There's nothing better than travelling away to see us gain all three points in adversity (i.e. our recent poor form, coupled with the fact the opposition had at least three-quarters of the play). Experiencing the lows of the last few weeks should make highs like yesterday all the more satisfying - and this model, of course, can be applied to supporting the club in a more general sense too. That is, during fallow periods of results, we should take a step back and appreciate the fact that we're in the Conference at all, given that we've spent much of the last few decades below the top level of non-league.

A great result yesterday, but it'll be so frustrating if we don't now go on to win games we should, on paper, be winning - starting with Tuesday.

Great result to go to York and pick up the victory, if only we could do it against the teams in lower league positions.

Really good day all round, we won away at a "League Club", I scored five goals, the maximum, in TINPOT (Confguide predicition league), my acumulator won and as ever we had a really good laugh on the clubs Official Away Travel Minibus.

That'll be Che - as I'm sure Gary would be only too happy to inform you.

Looking back at the game , no one had a particulalrly bad day.

Lance wasnt pressured enough by a Home team fourth in the league.

The defence was superb and Ross Smith proved with his superb performance that he can step into Maccas boots if he decides to move on. The midfield was bullied out of the game due to sheer physical size , but battled as well as they could. Keeling was also battled out of the game due to size but kept coming back like a bad penny. Charlie was at times forced to drop deep and go wide , but undertook this task professionally.

All in all a professional approach against a team who could have ended chance of a playoff spot for us

With teams in the top 6 still toplay each other , Fleet now have a massvie chance to get back into the shake up.

We will need to win at least 5 games to stand a chance, I think. Personally, I reckon Exeter, Burton, Morecambe & Oxford are likely to be the play off candidates. Of those, Exeter look the most vulnerable given that they face 3 tricky away games at Crawley, Stevenage & Aldershot.

Of course, given nerves and patchy form, there will, no doubt, be many twists and turns, & surprise results before the play off places are finally decided.

Every game will be like a cup final. Lets get that message out to the locals - "We need your support"! For the 1st 4 of our remaining home games, there is no Gillingham or Charlton home game - the locals are there to be won over. If we cant get them down to Stonebridge Road, in the circumstances, we never will - especially if we win the 1st 2 home games this week.

Whatever happens now, though, we've all got to be proud of the efforts from the boys this season. They deserve better than the basic 1000 or so home supporters.

The last game of the season at Dagenham should be a party atmosphere, more particularly so obviously, if we make the play offs. Go there with a chance and I'd like to think we could come close to filling their away end (approx 1000 capacity, I believe).

Come on lads, you CAN do it - Believe and we will achieve.

I know its been mentioned before, but would Charlton be prepared to mention us in their daily e-mail bulletins. Anyone who has bought a matchday ticket from them will get this bulletin as I understand it (if they have an e-mail address) & it only needs input along the lines of "Support the Charlton old boys - Gravesend are pushing hard for a play off place in the Nationwide Conference and have 5 remaining home games, along with 2 away games. The home games are..... We have no game on the first 4 of these, so why not pop along and see our former players, Onome Sodje, Stacey Long and Charlie Macdonald amongst others. Charlton Season Ticket Holders will be admitted for £5 on production of their season ticket"

Would probably need adjusting as it obviously wouldnt be in tomorrows bulletin, but surly worth a try.

If not placed in the e-mail bulletin, perhaps a posting on their message board might capture some attention. A similar thing could be done with the Gills. Naturally the reduced pice entry would need to be agreed.
