Could be partly my fault as I did not " officially " divulge this information until after announcing it at Wednesday night's League meeting so please do not be too harsh on this excellent medium. By the way , anyone taking a look at Brentwood Town's ground in the next week should be very suitably impressed - they are doing their level best to get it up to Step 4 grading so good luck to them !

No further news has been heard from Woodford Town or FC Risden , who no doubt have found great difficulty in securing a ground that fulfils the Step 5 membership criteria. White Ensign , who are undoubtedly one of the best Intermediate sides in the country and locked into the National League system, still do not meet the criteria in terms of ground . It is such a huge jump from Step 7 to our Step 5 that life is very difficult for these clubs . If we had a Step 6 second division the transition would not be so great but the FA have put our wishes for this " on the back burner " . At the end of the day, when all promotion and relegation is sorted ( July/August ? ) and a league finds itself short of numbers then I understand the opportunity may arise for a club to apply to a step 5 league through the National League Committee from outside the national league system as happened last season, so we will never give up hoping for an extra club until its too late ! We are still hopeful for a 1 for 1 exchange of clubs from Step 4 but if two Step 4 clubs finish bottom of the Ryman Div 1 North then I assume that our meeting with the FA on April 11th will answer that one ?

Mr Chairman

I have a vested interest in this as I play for Ensign. We have tried lots of different avenues to get into the ESL, but to no avail.

Do I understand from your last post that: if the ESL found it was short on clubs this summer then iot might be possible for Ensign to apply, and be considered for, ESL status even though our ground is not entirely up to Step 5 requirements?

And if so, what team did this last year?

White Ensign FC or anyone in a Step 7 league that is part of the National League System can only join a Step 5 League such as the ESL if they apply to the FA and through their own league at the appropriate time. The last thread is correct in naming two clubs who were outside of the Natinal League system at the time of application.

is there anything to gain by not applying, i.e financially or less hassle for clubs.

Mr Chairman. Always grateful for your feedback.

I do get annoyed about this White Ensign thing. The small minded suits who prevent White Ensign progressing through their small minded draconian attitudes are really doing local soccer development in general a disservice. We all know that the Eastwoodbury Lane ground is only a small step away from ESL standard and infact probably equals some grounds of clubs who are in the league. The later getting licence to stay in even though thier grounds may have fallen below the standard.

If Eastwoodbury Lane was given the required make over what difference does it make to the suits whether White Ensign use it to play in the Essex Olympian or ESL? Why are these people taking such a negative approach?
