Re AFC Wimbledon-Press Release

For immediate release

James Cross, a lifelong Kingstonian supporter has today launched an online petition calling for the confirmation of the 18 point deduction for the breach of regulations by AFC Wimbledon in the registration of one of its players. This is done to counter the bias in the debate and to put the other perspective. James feels that AFC Wimbledon get a free ride from tame hacks, mediocre rent-a-quote politicians and the football press.

Cross commented “When we heard about the 18 point deduction naturally we felt that this seemed a draconian measure however the precedent was there and the rules were in place when the season started. However with their permanent sense of victimhood AFC Wimbledon soon made this rather innocuous affair seem very sinister and events took a grim turn. AFC Wimbledon have tried to portray themselves as victims in this when it is they who have broken the regulations. If this was a victimless offence then there would be no need for the rules but they are there for a purpose – to prevent the poaching of players. AFC Wimbledon need to behave with grace and dignity, stop playing the martyr and accept their punishment. Articles from tame hacks and the fanboy football press such as When Saturday Comes have been not only short on fact and long on sentimentality. Many in the football community are getting fed up of this continual petulant child act from AFC Wimbledon’s fan base and believe it is time for them to move on.”

I urge you to sign this petition. Thank you for your time in reading this.

Responding to comments about threats and intimidation a shaken Cross commented “I had originally planned to launch the petition on Sunday 25th March even though it was active however some AFC Wimbledon fans became aware of it and made comment about it on Kingstonians forum. However even more sinister were some threatening and mischievious comments on the petition from their fans. Having someone say they know where I live is a worry to me and knowing that some elements of their support are trying to frighten me into backing down makes me realise I need to pursue this. I am genuinely frightened at the threatening comment and frightened for my wife and son as well however I know this petition is correct. I would also urge the popular press who so worship at the altar of AFC Wimbledon to look further at the acquisition of Kingsmeadow and how that deal came about.”

Sorry, but i do not agree with it. If it was our club (although we would never get into this situation), we would try everything in our power to get out of a MASSIVE 18 POINTS deduction. Publicity would be involved and we would all be making a big deal out of it. If it had happened to Kingstonian, do you think they would not try to get out of it or appeal until they were blue in the face. Of course they bloody would! Anyone who says different is a complete liar!

I am not condoning breaking the rules and if you dont agree with the decision, then fine, but to go these lengths of having a petition drawn up and getting all shirty is just petty and ridiculous when all Wimbledon did was jump on the bandwagon created for them (not by themselves) by the press because of their brief public history and try to save their skins like any other club would.

They broke no law when trying to appeal and went through the process legally. It was changed legally to three points (a more reasonable decision) and they were still kicked out of the Trophy which has cost them thousands of pounds in possible revenue plus the huge fine. And they did everything right when it came to this. It is the FA who made the decision, not Wimbledon.

I say have it out with the FA and get the rules changed or tightened up if people are so aggreived but dont take it out on Wimbledon after they have appealed and all they did was try to save their skins. They harmed no one doing it (apart from people who were jealous because maybe they could climb the table at Wimbledon's expense or the fact that they lost their ground to them not long ago) and went about it through the FA correctly.

As Canvey fans, i see no reason why we should hold anything against them either because 1) They went about it correctly and just like anyone else would have and 2) because it gives them a great chance now of catching Chelmsford and stopping Kingy!

it has probably but they have treated kingstonian pretty shabily in the past.I know that kingstonian have had their problems thats why they sold the ground to afc but from what i understand AFC Wimbledon have made their lives hell since buying the ground even though kingstonian were offered incentives when selling up an from what i have heard none of these have been provided. This is only second hand of one of their fans that i used to work with so it may not be accurate

The K`s fans were never going to be happy with a club buying their ground and telling them what to do, imagine if Romford took control of Bridge Avenue, how would you feel? whistle

I agree with that sentiment although personally I feel Wimbledon should have had the full quota of points deducted.

There seems to be alot of clubs 'throwing the toys out of their prams' because they might not get to the play offs or win promotion. At the end of the day maybe these clubs should concentrate on getting enough points to make sure they secure a place in the play offs or win promotion rather than bleating about it.

It will be their own fault not Wimbledon's if they don't make it because during the course of 42 games they've not obtained enough points. I've seen comments on other forums on here (I won't name, names) branding AFC cheats which I find a bit too strong. It's the rantings of somebody whose got the sulks who thought their club might benefit from Wimbledon's demise.

At the end of the day it's the FA's fault so why take it out on Wimbledon?

Saying that Wimbledon don't seem to have made many friends recently even before this escapade.
