Southport Report on the Game

Recommended Posts

Having just got up on Sunday morning, with a somewhat sore throat for all the shouting at the match yesterday. I am still really pleased with the point, although could have been three.

The penalty incident was not clear from where I was standing, but the players and fans, all seemed pretty convinced, but then they would.

The thing I can't understand is how the lino had a better view than the ref. OK the ref may have been"unsighted"( something we seem to think that most ref's are, re specs etc) but if Justin was on the line, I cannot see the the lino's view would have been any better. Also having seen the way that particular official dealt with the Benno booking in the first half, allowing the S/port tackle to go un-punished but when Benno and the player were going 50/50 pushing and shoving suddenly his little flag starting waving and the rest is written in yellow.

Also the booking for Rob Owen was a complete disgrace, the lad gets fouled , has treatment, goes to the side of the pitch, raises his hand to be allowed on, gets a slight push in the back from the S/port bench, Rob starts to walk back on to the pitch and gets booked, moments later a hand ball incident by a player in yellow, plus two incidents later in the match of deliberatley kicking the ball away after the whistle and nothing given.

No wonder we all had sore throats.

Had a great day out, good coach trip back, thanks to everyone for your great company yesterday.

Onward and upward.

Keep those pledges coming in. ( see you all thought I had forgotten)

The Southport fans that I met around the ground seemed a decent bunch, and their correspondent has also written a fair piece in the NLP today, and we were commended on our style of play. Now theres a first !! But the scousers have always been able to appreciate good football.

Its days like yesterday that the Conference is all about, and why it means so much to stay up this year.

PS. I have not forgotten about the pledges either ( £20 quid + a further fiver for the point from yesterday) , I will be round to see you in your hut on Saturday. Lets keep the pledge appeal in everyones mind, and continue to use all aspects to publicise it.. Posters , announcements at the games , The Reporter , sponsorship per goal, point etc etc...

All aboard the Fleet, as we set sail for Conference survival..
