Most East londers think they are cockneys when they are not. The bells of Mary Le Bow can be heard in both east and south london but not as far as most people think!

Correct. St Mary Le Bow church is in Cheapside, slap bang in the middle of the City of London, about 100yrds from St Pauls.

 

Also, theoretically, there were no Cockneys born between 11th May 1941 (when the bells were destroyed in a World War II German air raid) and 21st December 1961 (when the Bells rung for the first time after 20 years of restoration work). So the bells did not chime during that period.
