It was a terrible result for us but a good result for you. Neither player deserved to be sent off, as your player couldn't really get his hand out of the way and our player only tripped him up and I don't really think that warrents a red card but it was a penelty but you missed it and then scored so we finished up quiet evn i n the end.

According to our manager's interview on our local radio station, the ball hit our guy on the chest and not his hand - apparently, the ref only gave the penalty on the assistant refs say so.

Sounds like we'll be appealing, if the video confirms Ford's comment.

A good point, even if it could have been 3 if we had scored with our penalty.

Other results were kind to us, as far as the clubs immediately around us were concerned - Leigh, Kettering and Nuneaton all lost, and Stevenage only drew at home to Morecambe.

Lets make sure we take this forward next week with 3 points at home to Woking.

Even if we beat Woking we won't catch them next week.

It looks like Kettering to go down plus two from Stevenage, Leigh, Nuneaton and us.

A good point today though especially after being one down with ten men shame about the penalty...you've got to feel sorry for Che, whatever has been said in other threads he has done well for us in the past and once he gets out of this bad patch he will do well for someone in the future, until we get someone better I hope he stays with us.

I think we need the Fridge back soon, we need some clean sheets, a few one nils will soon see us safe.

Not entirely true (he says nit-picking) as if we had scored the penalty, the resulting kick-off by Southport as opposed to a corner by us would have meant the position of the ball in play would have been totally different.

As it stands - Che missed a penalty,
IT WAS ALSO CHE WHO SET JACKO UP FOR THE GOAL
THE THROUGH BALL WAS SUPERB.

In my opinion, Skinner was harshly sent off as I didn't think it was a penalty. Overall, today's ref WAS A JOKE.

Indeed Daz, Che's penalty wasn't desperately bad, and it took a good save to keep it out. His pass for Jacko to score the equaliser proves that he still has something to offer us.

A very good point considering the red card to Skinner and going one goal down in the space of about a minute (remember Dagenham away?). While we had the penalty chance, Southport should have scored when Thomson was through in the first half, and on balance I think a draw was a fair result. You have to say that Southport look like a talented team short of confidence at the moment.

Jacko, our Mr. Dependable, deserves special praise for his clinical finish (he remains one of the best finishers in the team), as well as Bentley, who had another strong game. Pennock's presence at the back undoubtedly helps us through the difficult spells of pressure from our opponents.

The only worries are Giles' injury (any news on how bad it is, Dave?) and the 24 disciplinary points we picked up today, when 9 per game is the target. Still, a great day out and a great result, all things considered.

Che was indeed unlucky with the penalty.. He had placed it in the bottom corner to the keepers right, and it was a top class save to keep it out. Despite the miss, Che was back looking a bit more like his old self, and was instrumental in most of the chances that we created.

Apart from Ches' performance , there were plenty of other postives to take from the game..

We played creative attacking footie for the majority of the game creating (but unfortunately missing) quite a few chances, we managed to ride our luck also as they missed a couple of gilt edged chances, and then once we went down to 10 men, we battled even harder and arguably dominated the closing 20 minutes or so .

An entertaining and morale boosting display , which if we can maintain should see us playing conference footie again next season.

Apart from Skins now facing another ban, the only other downside was Ben Whites' ability to keep hold of the ball and his distribution. I am still undecided on Ben in the middle of the park, at times he has great touch and vision, but yesterday was a day when most of the passes seem to go awry, and at times this left us exposed.

The Fleet onwards and upwards..

Pardon? He played like a big fairy for most of the game!!

Well, at least he managed to stay on his feet this game. But unfortunately it looked like he had lent his roller skates to Budgie !!!

In all seriousness tho , despite , not having too many shots / chances himself, I thought that he held the ball up well, and linked much better than he has been with the players around him.

In the last 20 minutes or so, we created quite a few half chances ( unfortunately all skyed over the bar tho' ) , of which Che was involved in.

I was just a shame that he missed the penalty in what could be his last game for the Fleet, as I hear a rumour that there could be a big, fat yellow man, with a cheque book nearly as large as he's appetite waiting in the wings for his signature..

The Fleet - Doing it the right way.
