Off Topic 2: Other Teams

Okay time for my second and final (I promise) off-topic post. Obviously you are all die hard Ricay fans but I was curious as to whether you also looked out for the results of perhaps a Premiership club, and if you had a favoured European side. So reveal all - my teams are already mentioned at the foot of the message.

Well....as it happens ! You are right, I am Ricay through and through and certainly don't support any other club but...my mother's side of the family are from Bury in Lancashire and I used to watch the Shakers first couple of games of the season in August on school holidays there as a lad, so always name them as my "second team". And... (apologies for those of you about to yawn coz you've heard this all before!!!) my mum's cousin Wendy is the grandmother of Gary & Phil Neville so you would think her favoured Premiership side would be Man Utd, but she is a mad keen LIVERPOOL fan, so I have been brought up to like them too ! It gets a bit confusing round her house when it's Liverpool v United and Gary hacks down a Scouser and gets booked I tell you !

I follow 'Ricay, Norwich City and FC Veres Rivne. Rivne are in the second tier of Ukrainian football but the standard is very low and the crowds are tiny. Ricay would have no trouble in turning over the Veres if they played them. Sometimes I go to home games but the atmosphere is worse than Canvey and the crowds not much bigger.

Sorry Clyde Fan, but I can't find much to get excited about in Scottish football. It is so boring and predictable.

I would think that most Ricay fans also watch out for one of the London clubs, maybe West Ham or Spurs. Having said that I have a couple of mates who stand behind the goal at New Lodge who just support BTFC and have no loyalty to any other team.

I follow Arsenal, but these days i find it very hard to get excited about top flight football. I think a lot of the hardcore ricay fans just support ricay.

Ok a quick response to some of the replies thus far (I'll work backwards):-

 

Extaffyjim - I know exactly what you mean. I used to go to Rangers games for many years (actually still go to the European ones) but strangely nothing compares to following the local smaller side who are on a constant battle to survive. My Clyde season ticket is my most treasured possesion - just dont mention that to my better half!!!

 

Ukraine btfc - you're kinda right, Scottish football can be predictable but this year there's actually been a few shocks - like our country being joint top of your section There's also been a lot of great football played from teams like Hibs and smaller ones like Falkirk. (and my own team in div 1!!!) The best league in the world for excitement I guess is the Premiership, but my own personal favourite is the Bundesliga.

 

Neil - Been to a number of English League grounds but Bury isn't one of them - although strangely my wife went to Bury with her family recently to see some big market. Strange but true! Lancashire in general though is a great place - I particularly like Lancaster and Morecambe - both of which I've been to on countless occasions for many years.

 

Hookey - aaah, save the best till last. Sorry to hear about your second team man, but hey, we all have issues. Seriously though, well done on a very successful season.

 

And what about the rest of you - surely you all look out for other scores here and abroad too??? Gary, Keith, Ian and co - are you lot in hiding or what???
