Another Programme Award for Hoddesdon

Recommended Posts

137 points? Surprised I had that many to be honest, my programme hasn't been as good this season. Still, I got the Division 2 award, though it could be by default if no other team entered.

I've got to get my hands on a Hoddesdon programme, that is some score they have got there, well done excited

This is typical, why can't you just give credit where credit is due like Horace and Spidermanor have kindly done even if it may have been through gritted teeth. Yes well done HTFCew and AWK, it would seem that Broxbourne Borough and Leverstock Green didn't submit their weighty tome's this year for judging, Broxbourne normally romp home with the Premier Division prize.

Well, clip Rods, I shall need to adopt the same stance as you do when it comes to issuing apologies in that I'll need to check the facts to see whether any credit is due.

Second place wouldn't be bad if it was judged against every other programme in the division, but was it? For all I know, the three programmes listed may have been the only three entered, in which case Kentish Town only came second out of three. For all I know, there could be another half a dozen clubs with better programmes who didn't bother sending them in because they are not glory hunters like you appear to be.

It's also a very subjective thing when awards come down to one person's opinion. Next time I see "Big Phil" I'll need to ask him what his criteria was and how he issued the marks. Maybe then I'll know whether any credit is due.

An interesting post however you seem to forget that I have a copy of all the Division 1 Club's programmes from this season bar the two we have yet to visit, namely Buckingham Athletic and Amersham Town, and unless they are weighty tome's like ours full of colour photographs, Hello and OK magazine style, it's probably safe to say that we deserve our second spot. I'm not a glory hunter and am first to admit that Hoddesdon deserved their award yet again, the margin of points between them and us prove that. Anyway your chum Big Phil rates our programme highly, he has been to watch us but I don't actually recall seeing him at Brimsdown earlier this month when you said your friend was there so that must mean you have two friends.

HTFCew - I'm not suggesting that quantity is better than quality and having a weighty tome is the necessary criteria to win an award, Chalfont St Peter's programme is proof in the pudding in that respect. I haven't actually seen a Chalfont programme this season but are the pages tinted with gold or something, it must be something special.

Well we do colour too, besides Hoddesdon have lots of match reports in their programme including totally insignificant games so I'm not sure what judging criteria is used, it will be interesting to see what Potters Bar Town's 'friend' says. As for line-ups I still maintain they should be well hidden within a body of a programme so punters have their work cut out finding the page rather than spoon feeding them.

As a former programme editor myself, I say that no-one in their right mind would claim that it's best to hide the team line-ups. It's VITAL that they appear prominently and consistently. This is reflected in the fact that programme surveys give additional marks for this. Hoddesdon's programme is unique in my experience - I've tried them as a cure for insomnia before now! Complete waste of time, and it does a dis-service to clubs who produce sensible programmes to keep giving it awards! So there!

When programmes were first introduced into the British game, they were basically nothing more than single sheets which prominently displayed the team line-ups. Therefore, it is clear that programmes were invented, and the number one reason for their continued existence today, is to provide spectators with the information regarding who is playing that day. Therefore, anybody who deliberately tries to make it difficult to find this information is obviously a complete idiot.

It's always good to see a club make an effort with their prgrammes & website but can they out too much information for future oppositions? Our programme is not the best in the league but must be up there - will have to try to send off copies for next year!!

Hoddesdon programme was always a god send as it distracted from Alan Moores team talks!!

NeutralFan - The Hoddesdon players will still have something to get their teeth into tomorrow and I usually put seven or eight copies in the away dressing room unlike most Club's who only put two or three in ours if we're lucky which is a bit tight and causes our players to fight over them. Anyway I've done 65 for tomorrow which will hopefully be enough to go around, do you want me to give one to Jonno for you, he can let you have it at Cockfosters on Tuesday.
