Now this brings up an issue that I am happy to be debated here on the forum . I was given " 4" as the official attendance and, accordingly, have to accept this. If there were 15 in the ground ( and I am not doubting the Beeswax sincerity on this ) then how did the other 11 arrive on the scene and when ? Are all clubs including the legitimate complimentaries in their gate when announcing the attendance or just keeping to the actual " paid" customers ? .. or is all this too heavy on a Saturday night ?

i have bought up this issue before on this forum, lets be honest we both know the answer to your question and we can probably both understand some clubs reluctance to admit their true attendances, but if your going to include people who havent paid then you right as well include the lady working in the tea bar and the kit man.

We, as many clubs maybe, have to rely on "pressurised" volunteers to do things on matchdays. Often they are not told the exact requirements of the job and inaccuracies occur.

As far as I am concerned, anyone who walks through the gate, whether he or she pays, flashes a ESL card, is a referee's assessor, any injured player (and we have a few of those!!!!)counts towards the attendance.

Of course, you cannot include the playing staff of either side, the management and medical staff of either side or the officials but anyone else should be counted.

I could break down the attendance figures at Gardiners Close today to be pedantic, but who gives a monkeys? In years to come the attendance will be listed as 15 in the club records. A far cry from 4000 on the opening of the ground or the 1200 plus against Irthlingborough Diamonds in the Vase but that was then and now is now!

well i dont wish to be a pedant but im sure most people assume that the attendance figure is the number of PAYING spectators,by the way is frank ford no longer involved with the club,i remember when he used to work on the gate down there.

I was there today to watch basildon utd play at home to stansted a draw was a fair result in my opinion this game had a 0-0 written all over it, at the end of 90 minutes my neck was aching in watching all the long balls being punted up to the front 2 of both teams, what happened to the days when teams played out from the back, and before you asked i wasn't 1 of the 4 that paid.

basildon getting 15 at home is disgusting. Not knocking anyone at the club but for basildons biggest side, which is united to draw 15 punters then clearly shows that something is not right at the club. Before certain developments at hornchurch took place we would average crowds of 40-60 regularly. Now we get 10 times that,i know basildon are an ESL club but they are basildons premier club, surely with a town like basildon then the gates should be higher, perhaps it needs someone with such insight within the club to promote the club. With a population of 60'000 plus they should be getting a few more.
