The War

Recommended Posts

Quote:
For Iraq, do we think we're doing them a favour by leaving Hussein in charge, if this war was won quickly, it could start a new regime without any of the existing sanctions, something people want to work towards.

To quote a newspaper from today:

No-one's ever asked for their country to be bombed.

Agreed on your first point, and I suppose you could say no one has ever been asked to be used as a human shield??

Sorry, death and destruction are what you get with war, the question has to be is it worth it? I think on the balance of it, yes it does.

I know this is an emotive issue, but the decision to get rid of Saddam cannot be emotive. It has to be made on the basis of, do we want this guy to remain in control of one of the wealthiest economies in the world or not?

Bottom line is that regardless of means or consequence he's got to go sooner or later, then we have the prospect of a slightly safer world.

George W. Bush. Tony Blair. They're both in charge of wealthy economies.

Hussein will fire if fired upon, surely. So who's the cause?

GHA - true George and Tony are both in charge of wealthy economies, difference is that they were democratically voted in and did not kill every political opponent of theirs.

Hussein will fire on people regardless, as he has done historically, the fact there is a war on just gives him an extra excuse. Let's not just talk about Iraqis here either, British and American soldiers will die too. And why because Saddam does not want to comply with the rules, believe it or not Blair isn't going in to this because he fancies a war, he wants rid of Saddam, where have the last 12 years got us, is he any less of a threat now??? There is still even a route out of war now, everyone agrees it's avoidable, so why does Iraq not comply??

Simply because saying yes let's the Americans win, but saying no creates a division, an opportunity Russia and France have seized upon (I see Germany as an exception because the government was voted in on an anti-war pledge). Please don't tell me Russia and France are doing this out of compassion or care for the world. France will continue nuclear testing and not give a damn and Russia will no doubt fight anyone like Chechnya without a second thought for the UN. Saddam maybe a monster but he knows how to exploite an obvious international weakness.

Not sure if it is connected with the war - but Ian Duncan Smith has just been asked to a meeting with Blair at 8.30 tomorrow morning.

I have just had an operational note about it - a statement is being read at around 8.45am - so could be interesting.

Hi admin.

The "operational note" that you received. Did you get that from Tone or IDS?

Why do they include Canvey Island's Message Board Admin chap on their circulation list? Is it because the percentage level of support for the lunatics is higher on this thread than any other forum in the country?

Just curious.

Difficult to argue with some of your stuff but your question "why are France and Germany doing this " is simple both have fiscal/oil arrangements with Saddam (plus France with Mugabee)

Please do not give virtues to Blair,Bush or Chirac non are visable

That's one of the things that annoys me most about the media coverage. Bush is shown to be a loony (which he may well be) and Blair is shown to be a loony's sidekick (which he may well be), with both of them acting on purely economic grounds, the evil little scalliwags. Then Chirac is held up as the saviour of all things sensible and sane (which he most certainly isn't), and no one mentions that he is acting on purely economic grounds, the wonderous golden chosen one that he is.

I hate the media sometimes.

ahh...such mystery AFF...there is actually a simple answer to your conundrum...we received the cabinet minute from Peter Foster who was acting for Carole Caplin who was acting for 'Queenie' aka Cherie Blair...naturally we sent it on to Canvey Island in the knowledge that they are qualified to assess such matters.....

Tony's not as daft as he looks...he knows where the real power in the country lies....HFC of course....he he <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Lets drink to absent friends and a curse on the very few enemies (one family and their friends) we are about to hit with the biggest collection of ironware fire crackers grouped together and dropped from a great height since the second world war

Let's watch out for the friendly yank fire landing on Challenger tanks that won't start because they're clogged up with sand. We'd shoot back at them but the SA80's don't work and we can't tell them because the radios don't work. Still no-one will be hurt because the Brits have all nipped off to the shops to buy their kit because the civil servants cocked up and didn't give them any.
