My hero - sacked again

From the Isthmian League website:

"Aveley Football Club have parted company with manager Steve Browne by 'mutual agreement.' The news was announced on Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after what was probably the final nail in the Millers' Ryman Division One North promotion hopes. They were held 1-1 at home by Maldon Town, a result which leaves them adrift of the place-off race.

However, club secretary Craig Johnson said that results of late weren't the main reason why Browne has departed. "Steve has some issues away from football at the moment which has been causing him some problems and we all agreed it was best that there be a parting of the ways now," he said. "The promotion dream has probably gone but the club is in a very secure position and we'd like to thank Steve for all the good work that he has done."

Millers are in no rush to seek a replacement and for the moment first team affairs will be managed by physio Kevin Head, assisted by youth team coach Alex Smith. Craig added: "We will wait and see who comes forward. The club is in good shape and I expect that my phone will be ringing with people who are interested in this job. Whether that includes Kevin and Alex, who might wish to apply, I don't know, but we are confident the club is in a sound position and in safe hands at the moment."

Steve Browne took over at Mill Field midway through last season and steered them away from a potential relegation battle.

This year, after a slow start, Aveley have spent much of the campaign in the top few positions, going as high as second, only recently slipping out of contention with a string of disappointing results."

Hard to believe he cocked up another promotion push. Harder to believe that anyone still gives him a job.
