As it was freezing cold last night, I went down to see how the Old Boys were getting against Leyton.

It was an easy 5-1 win against a team that didn't look bad going forward but were a little bit lacking at the back so I can't say that Jacko, Proths and Co overstretched themselves, but here goes.

Jacko - As I suspected the last time I saw him against Carlshalton. He is at least one level below his standard and there's no doubt he could still do a job for us, but, believe it or not, I reckon he's put on a bit of weight and (last night at least) he was playing in concentrated bursts rather than for the whole 90. All in all though he was the best Margit player on show.

Prothers - Was playing in his sleep! He still has a nice touch on the ball but was strolling around. There was one particular moment in the first half when he simply didn't bother running for a well laid off pass and then had the audacity to complain! Lets put it down to him realising it was going to be an easy win and he didn't fancy getting his gloves dirty!

Mitton - Bit unfair to judge him last night as the conditions were grim for a 'keeper (or as the owners of Man U. would say, Goal Tender) He looked pretty much assured and had no chance with the Leyton goal. I always felt abit sorry for Charlie at our place as I don't think we saw him at his best.

Skins - Should have walked for a nasty kick at the Leyton winger early in the second half. So no change there then. He still has good positional sense but in all honesty he's lost it a bit now. That said, he did score and the fans seem to like him. For me he was the biggest disapointment.

Trott - Had a calm and assured game against a tricky (but fat) striker. Again, conditions were too grim to accurately judge a centre half, but certainly looked ok.

Saunders - Huffed and puffed. Was playing as the attacking centre midfielder and did an ok if unspectacular job. Disappeared for long stretches and I wasn't overly impressed.

To finish things off, Scott Honeyball played at Centre half for Leyton! I'm ashamed to say that I didnt recognise him at first and was already "having a go" at the "Fat [****!!****]" at the back before I realised! Lets hope that wasn't one of his better games!

The ground? Awful. Theres one side of temporary seating. That God-Awful Home Terrace and one end of flat standing. The old stand has been cleared and is populated by porta-Cabins. I was a bit late getting there and the turnstiles were shut and I couldn't find a programme for sale anywhere, plus the nice burger van was closed which was a pain. And Icouldn't believe my ears when some dopey woman who obviously had some sphere of influence started to tell everyone how poor the facilities were at OTHER grounds.

HELLO? Open your eyes Woman!

Its a salutary lesson to all those on this site who think we are doing the wrong thing by not over reaching ourselves. I have to be honest and say I'm not keen on some of their fans as they have appear to be married to their Mothers! BUT as a football fan, I do feel sorry for them as their club has sold them out. There's no doubt the fans are pleased to be back at their ground but its come at a price.

As for our lot? Well Jacko aside I reckon L.D was right to let them go, but it was nice to see them, and it's obvious to me that if they play to their strengths the club "should" walk that league next year. Good luck to them!

Andy

Can't say much for last nights game as I was not there but Saunders has been outstanding all season. However, about the club, ironically if you check the Margate main site, they announced today the start of Phase 1 of the re-development of HDP. Hopefully we ae moving in the right direction again. Best of luck for the season (apart from Fri though)

Listen fella, with all the bad news in the papers about pension schemes its only right that we keep an eye out for the old timers we have sent to the retirement home by the sea....if you don't behave we'll go back to sending our cast-offs to Welling.

I didn't intend to slag off your ground, in fact I'm quite impressed at the fact that you are back there at all!

I was really trying to make the point that its a lesson in how not to run a football club.

It would be nice to think that you will be playing us at some point in the future in a 4 sided stadium, and maybe in League II!

Please accept my best wishes for the future.... and look after our Old Boys for us!

We did go to Rookery Hill in December '05 for an FA Trophy match and, whilst the ground was small and open to the elements and had poor facilities, on the other hand I did get a free burger and they offer student entry, unlike a certain Conference club I know...

If ever there was a case for disproving global warming it was East Thurrock in December.

When they opened the club shop at half-time (a cardboard box by the tea hut) I was very tempted to buy a couple of East Thurrock scarves, very reasonable at £5 a time, to wrap around my face, the only part of me open to the howling gale blowing in off the estuary....an added bonus would have been that I wouldn't have been able to see the second half.

You Margate boys had better take good care of Jacko, its only a loan.

Students should pay full price if they are over 16 !!! If anyone should get discounts, it's people like me & Busta ! There was a time when people used to leave school and get a job....not avoid work for a further 5 years !!!

PS....this should get the posts rolling in......
...I can see the headline now...Meldrew in Politically Incorrect post storm !!

PPS - I quite enjoyed the trip to East Thurrock...at least we won, & they kept the bar open during the match !!
