Biggleswade Teams

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Im new here but have been lurking and reading for a long while..

Finally decided to take the plunge though and post a message..

Someone told me that both the Biggleswade teams have new players... Anyone know anything about this.. I see boths results are beginning to improve a bit.. Not so sure about who Town have got in but i heard that United have got in a few new players... Both of them obviously desperate to ensure safety.. Wonder where all these players suddenly appear form in east beds as Langford have a couple aswell i think... Robbie Odell you play for united dont you... Could u shed some light for us?? Have you got new players in?? Are they any good?? What about the other local clubs?? Cheers

Well, we haven't had many new signings, a couple of loanees in the last month, but no transfer activity out of the ordinary. We have had players back from injury and suspension which has helped a tad, but generally we have under performed for the first half of the season, so we are picking up a bit now.

Town have signed a few new players, some of which looked pretty good the other night. They seem tactically better as well, probably due to the new man in charge.

No Idea about Langford, Boony knows about 300 players so it wouldnt suprise me if he drafted a few in.

Who are you interested in 'Part Time'?

Robbie not really interested in any particular team.. Just float about watching as many games as possible... Live in Bedford so take a particular interest in the bedofrd teams etc.. Always has amazed me at the turnover of players in the bedfordshire clubs.. Coz i watch them all i see so many players switching between the local teams constantly?? Why is that??

Cant believe that theres much cash involved at this level though surely.. Not enough to make a difference?? Thought it was all just expenses!! I know the likes of Bedford Town Hitchin Town and Barton Rovers pay but below that wouldnt of thought there was much going round!

Neutral where do these clubs get their money from then?? I just dont understand it.. I have never understood how the likes of Hitchin and Barton pay the money they do to players let alone the lower level clubs.. What sort of cash are we talking in the ssmp then guys??

Usually it is through some kind of backer / sponsor. I think some clubs have a source of income through their bars and of course there is gate money. I think it's usually a combination of all of these but it is difficult to hold onto better players without paying them.

You'd be suprised what impact money can have. If some is on something minor like £20 a game/week plus expenses, all of a sudden that is an extra £100 a month (ish).

I bet youd fancy a £100 a month pay rise at work!
So when a club starts throwing bigger sums at players it can be tempting. It does my head in seeing average players earning big money!!

Being a Langford fan, I have to agree with RobbiO, we suffer with a vast turnover of players, in fact if you look at the website photograph, five of those in the twelve have since left and the majority are playing for UCL premier teams where I guess the pay is better as the travelling has got to be worse. We probably have 2 or 3 players from last season and the rest are new, we have also had some SB academy players on loan. We have one player Robert Groves, who has played between 250 and 300 games for us and has been at the Club 5-6 years. I guess that RobbieO has also stacked up the games for Biggleswade United, but I guess that masny games for one Club in our area is rare.

Also, isn't it great that there is a thread about the SSML that doesn't mention, Toto, Clement, apologies, and you know who.

I don't think it's much different in other areas, Brook House, Harefield, Ruislip, Hillingdon and Beaconsfield have all shared quite a few players over the years. Same round our way with St Mags, Hoddesdon, Ware, Hertford etc

I guess a lot of it has to do with which managers are where aswell.. Players follow managers alot i heard... And i guess certain managers hold more sway finacially maybe aswell which would explain there followers!!! Never understood why so many players end up in the ucl from the sml... Every time i watch an SML team come up against a UCL team the SML team comes out on top.. Yet the UCL does seem to be recognised as the better league and u dont seem to see many move the other way.... And now you say they are better paid in that league aswell!! Strange! Also rumour has it Stotfold will be playing in the SML next year... They have been in the UCL league for years and years and years!!

Good call Miko, not sure how many ive clocked up, cant be far off of Grover. He's like me, institutionalised!!!

We always seem to win against UCL teams, they all seem to have 2 lumps at centre back and play very direct football, whereas most team in SML like to pass, even on dodgy surfaces which unfortunately are quite common this year

It would seem sensible for Stotfold to move across - they probably have to travel past several SSML grounds as they go to away matches. However, they are precariously near the bottom of the UCL, and I'm sure thay wouldn't be allowed to move across just to avoid relegation! They could end up in our Div One though.....
