You do not need to turn ALL the power off to replace ONE fuse - you remove the blown fuse ONLY and replace it whilst the others remain working! or are the electrics in such a poor state at stag meadow that the oly safe way is to turn the WHOLE ground off?

Have you established what caused the fuse to blow in the first place?

In order to discover which fuse was causing the problem it was necesary to check all distribution boards and to do this you have to cut the power to it in order to open them.

SR1, if you want to stick your hands into a 3 phase distribtion board without cutting the power then be my guest.

So you're adding electrics to your ever-growing list of expertise now. That'll be handy if you ever move to a new ground as there will be a pitch expert, fencing expert and electrics expert willing to volunteer his services.

As it happens I'm NOT an electrician but have seen them do what needed doing before and was willing to give it a try to make sure the game went ahead. What I wasn't prepared to do though was kill myself in the process so the power was totally switched off whislt I was poking around in the dark! We're talking about 100 amp fuses here not the piddly things in your plugs at home and if you want to mess about with the power on then that's up to you, but having had the unpleasant experience of being personally connected to the mains supply in the past it's not something I would like to try again!

What caused it to blow is a guess and my guess would be old age!

The other problem is that the lights had to be turned off as the lamps in question need to cool down before re-igniting otherwise you'll end up with some coming on and not others and then when the others do come on the original ones would go off again due to the power surge.
