Billericay 5-0 Slough

Recommended Posts

So many positives came out of today - we got just the result we were hoping for, whilst again other results went in our favour, and it was truly heartening to see our players playing for the full 90 minutes at 100%, even after going in 3-0 up at HT when so often in that situation a game peeters out into nothingness. They really do look a fully committed and motivated bunch, Matt and his colleagues must deffo take some credit for communicating the importance of going for as many goals as possible, as we came out second half as though we'd just had a dire goalless 45 mins !

And I too echo all the comments of credit to the Slough faithful - though you do fear for their sanity !!! Also, a word of praise to the Rebels players, who although clearly, for whatever reasons behind the scenes are clearly not up to Ryman premier standard, never resorted to foul tactics, conducted themselves in a thoroughly sporting manner and constantly tried to encourage each other however many goals were being shipped at the back. Other relegation threatened sides you can imagine would handle the occasion so differently...

The whole day I felt was a credit to Non-League football.

I think the roof of the clubhouse may need looking at when 'that' score from Folksetone came in!

From what I'm given to understand about the state of New Lodge in general Ryan, I would think the roof of the clubhouse may need looking at when ANY score comes in!

Then you have understood incorrectly BC...Perhaps you should listen to an opinion a little further afield than from your biased frankly ill informed friends at Melbourne Park...That the next time you down south come down and see for yourself so you can make your own opinion.

Ok, where to start. Lets begin with it most certainly could have been 8 or 9 and that is (to me) a testimony to how far our young team have come. I was amazed also before the game to learn that Tony had raised so much cash for both comic relief and the club, so that must be credited also.

Back to the game, if ever there was a one sided game then that must surely be it. But, who-ever is put before you - a team must still go and do the job, and lads - You done the job. We (as supporters) tend to single a player out (eg) for scoring, making saves etc, but to me the team are my man of the match. Oh, ok then i give it to Ronnie !!! Yes, and the reason...Keeping his concentration levels going smile

These 3 points are another building block, but we still have to go to Walton - (So lads, if nothing else - remember when we were last there...Lights went out, and "us" fans were left there with no official to talk to us about what was going on etc etc - Go on - Do this one just for us eh?! wink - But most of all do it for YOURSELVES - YOU DESERVE IT ! We really are behind you (whatever happens) - But you know that anyway!

Continuing on. I thought Wareham when he came on looked like he has the makings of another quality winger. We are blessed with a few now! Interesting how he really wanted to take the penalty. Spoke to a guy on Friday at Colchester who says we have a lightning quick guy - This was his first time and i dare say he did not know anyone, so time and bonding will see the rewards. There really is a togetherness in this team - Pretty obvious to see that!

Enough ramblings, but the final word has to be given to the Slough fans. You made more noise and had enough numbers to credit yourselves. Well done!

We know we're not very good. We know we've been doomed for a long time. I think that has taken all pressure off the supporters and we just go along to support our team. It could be a very long time before we are at this level of football again and so we are enjoying the grounds while we can and supporting the players as much as possible. It is men against boys really, and while it is disappointing to be thumped every week, we can't fault the effort of our players, it is quality that they lack.

I hope the Comic Relief shave raised some good money. I certainly chucked a few quid into the bucket. A good idea for a good cause.

All the best for your promotion charge. Given we're heading in the opposite direction and most likely towards Southern 1 W&S it doesn't seem likely we'll meet again for the foreseeable future, which is a shame.

Don't need to get opinions from my "ill informed friends at Melbourne Park" Gazza - just read the threads on here with regard to the ground grading fund and the bits and pieces that require attention around the ground. OK, appreciate that your clubhouse is in good nick (almost on a par with ours I would think), but please allow me one little quip with regard to details of the pathetic reaction of your fans to our adverse result at Folkestone.

What reaction BC?

I think it's all been tame considering your result at 'Stone in comparison to what the reaction from "your friends" at CCFC, should the boot have beeen on the other foot.

A bit touchy today...A bit of "championship nerves" BC? Looking down and thinking, "my god, they don't look as inflated as they were a week ago"?

BC, would it please you if we re -named and went for Ground Grading Budget?

Fund raising at our club is on going, as it is at Chelmsford, and it was decided that our current spend/budget/project/fund would be used on meeting the new criteria recently imposed by the FA.

Tony Barham raised around £700 on saturday, well done mate.

Little quips are always welcomed BC, I particularly liked the the "pathetic reaction one" I'm sure that sort of thing doesn't go on at clubs like Hampton though. wink

Right back to the proper subject of this thread.

5-0 was, imo, another fine result, and one that keeps us snapping at the heels of those above us. A very professional and workman like performance by our lads, the combination of work ethic, team spirit, and talent are all combining well at the moment.

Well done Lads.

W & H will be an altogether different game though, they have another new manager who has a reputation of demanding a very determined performance from his team.

And the Slough team and fans, I can only echo whats been said, if ever they were to put a dictionary definition of what a football supporter should be, it should read: Slough Town Fans.

Good luck for the future and I hope we see you sooner rather than later.

Mine have NEVER been inflated Gazza. And championship nerves? - yes - been supporting the Clarets long enough now (since 1961) to realise that one of our strong points is "shooting yourself in the foot syndrome"!

Think Ricay must be favourites for the title now (though you may probably beg to differ). As stated on another thread, whilst the "usual suspects" continue to take points off each other, your lads are calmly, cooly and systematically working their way to the top. Still a long way to go though, and plenty of potential banana skins with your remaining away matches (though you should be OK at home). However, you seem less likely to slip up on the banana skins than the Clarets (bloody ex Conference prima donnas!)

Thanks for the kind words guys. We're trying our best to stay cheerful but the prospect of standing at Stag Meadow tonight, watching us concede a hatful to Boreham Wood whilst getting snowed on does not really fill my heart with joy. Still, there is always the hope we may score again!
