On a cold night at Hartsdown Park, Margate showed some good battling qualities against an unbeaten Dover side in the Floodlit Trophy. The game started with Dover putting in some firece challenges sometimes a bit too fierce. However the game then settled down with the teams appearing to cancel each other out with few chances. Paul Axon made some nice runs on the wings but it wasn't until the 43rd minute when Paul Barron, who made a nice little run into the box, looked to have been brought down by a Dover defender but the ref waved play on. Then on the stroke of half time there was a goalmouth scramble in the Dover area but the ball was cleared to safety. This resulted in Barron & a Dover defender getting injured but both recovered after a short spell.

In the 2nd half Barron had a great chance in the 57th minute when clean through from about 12 yards out but he managed to hit his shot just wide of the right post. Margate continued to press and after 72 mins deservedly took the lead when the hard working Kieron Morris broke clear and did a delightful lob over the oncoming keeper into the net. Further pressure then came and from a Paul Axon inswinging corner the Dover goalie was hard pressed to tip the ball over the bar. Then 5 mins before the end of the game the floodlights failed due to a power cut in the area. So at time of writing am not sure whether the result will stand. Overall the team once agaion performed well with Louis Smith looking solid at the back and looks to have the making of a good centre back for the future. Att I would guess was about 70.

I think last nights power cut furthers MM therioes of conspieracy.

After all Dover are unbeaten in this competion and were looking to be heading to defeat, what happens next poof the lights go out. Must have been a Dover person who stuck a rusty nail in the electric supply and caused a power failure for a least a mile around the ground.

PS well played last night lads.

I think for Donovan to come all the way from Crawley is asking a bit much maybe? Danny did have a little runabout on Tuesday too and Dan Allen was protecting a slight ankle injury he told us.

mudled thinking on my behalf and you are right.

Good to see the reserves creating justified interest (well from 4/5 of us anyway but you have to start somewhere )and again, aprrox. 70 people is surely quite good.

I reckon with a bit of effort, they could get close to 150 for those May fixtures on barmy summer nights

Danny Wisker did'nt play because he got a knock in the game on tuesday and agree TA result should bloody well stand. Although you had it down with 5 min to play the lights went out at 9-31 so it was in injury time if they kicked off on time.

Good result for reserves as 4 first teamers in Dover side.

They wanted to win this one but after a rocky start 2nd half all Margate. Barn door penalty first half turned down against Hickman.

Our goal a great pass from wing to pick out Morris with plenty of space to lob goalie.

This looked a very young Margate side and to win suggests potential for future.
