A bit surprised that Donovan was not given 45mins. as he has played in reserves before, and if anything happens to RT or PS then Donovan will be called upon, and in a vital position;so surely there is one player needing match practice.

Did Danny Allen look like a first team player 'in the making';in case he is equally called upon to cover

Well it looks like the team has been covered by others. 12 surname is Petit (tho writing is not easy to read) and 15 is Chris Brown who could have scored a hat-trick in his first 10 mins on the pitch.

My report of what I noted is as follows:

On a chilly evening in front of about 100, Margate Reserves came blasting out of the blocks against Hythe Reserves. In the first fifteen minutes they could have scored a couple of times including a shot from 16 year old Paul Axon which smacked against the inside of the post. Then in the 18th minute Hythe were awarded a penalty when one of their players were brought down on the edge of the penalty area. The resulting penalty was drilled hard down the middle to put Hythe one up against the run of play. Margate then exerted more pressure but good defending by the Hythe defence kept them at bay. Then in the 38th minute the ball came out to Nick Bagley wide on the left hand side and he hit a sweet half volley over the Hythe keepers head into the top right hand corner. Then just in the stroke of half time Hythe nearly got a second when Dan Allen cleared the ball off the line after a goalmouth scramble.

In the second half their was a nasty clash of heads between Dan Stokes and Saul Anderton but after lengthy treatment both recovered. Chris Brown then replaced Neil Hoggart and within a few minutes he had a great chance to put Margate ahead but his shot was cleared off the line. Then a lovely through ball from the hard working Dan Wisker to Nick Bagley looked goalbound but the Hythe goalkeeper made an excellent save diving to his left to push the ball away. Then Brown had another chance which was saved by on the line once again by the goalkeeper. Bagley was then subbed in the 75th minute after showing some nice touches throughout the game. Then with about 4 minutes left Brown had a further chance to win the game but his header went just over the bar.

Plus points for Margate were Dan Wisker having 90 minutes and looked very comfortable in central midfield. Nick Bagley with a screamer of a goal and looking quite sharp and a bonus in 16 year old Paul Axon who was lively all night and could have scored a fine goal if his shot had been inches other side of post. All in all a very entertaining game which should have been won but the Hythe goalkeeper with some great saves kept us at bay.

Nice report Alan.

Yes they should have won last night but I think of the reserve matches more of a learning curve for the players and they learnt a lot last night. Must say was very impressed with Paul Axon and he does seem to have a good motor on him as well as a lot of pace.

Ken (call me Nick) Bagley had good game and the goal must have given him a lot of confidence plus the extra match fitness he gained from it.

I must say that if you have not been to a reserves match then make the effort on Saturday if you are not going to Staines as for £2.00 it is the biggest bargain in Thanet on a Saturday.

Thanks Hengist, my apologies for any reserve players chances I may have missed but I had my two great nephews to keep an eye on too and believe you me not easy to do! wink

Agree the best £2 you can spend to see some Margate players of the future.

"SeasideSteve".

If your feelings are so strong concerning the way the fans are being treated by the Club. If as i believe you are local then why don't you pop in and make your views known to KP, as he is there most mornings.

I am sure he would welcome and take on board "face" to face comments much more willingly than obscure postings on the website.

Great report TA-many thanks

Interesting stuff, and as others say, for the reserves its not just a matter of results, but nurturing the obvious talent.

Hope from the amount of interest this thread has generated, the reserves and MW realise that we are genuinely interested and behind them.

Crowd of 100 was'nt bad either was it ?

I reckon for every 4 reserve games attended, you should be entitled to free admission to a first team game.

Either that, or maybe if you go to a reserve game, you can get the programme at next home game for £1.-or something similar.

May aswell try to maximise attendances at reserve games, and show the guys support.

Not too easy for me at 220 miles away, but maybe would be of benefit to the local fans;and should actually give a small increase in overall revenue

I can't believe that there is nothing on the website for the reserves. Not even a mention. We should at least have the fixtures and league table, that can't be much to ask for surely.

Must admit i did not realise either that link was there.

Maybe club could have said that 'we are now delighted to give you access to all the reserve team news from around the County, icluding the latest fixtures for Margate reserves by clicking on the link'
