Now, as much as I slagged off MP3 players, I have to admit that they are useful to dump some albums that I may not have the time to listen to at home...And also those favorites...

I've been introducing some new bands to Young Mr. Nixon of late and one of them by L.E.O. called Alpacas Orgling is a corker (it's playing on the MP3 player right now). Okay, it's a rip off from E.L.O. but well done. The members of the band originate from Jellyfish (anyone remember them?) and altho sounding much like the aforsaid vehicle for Master Jeff Lynne, it is quirky (al la Jellyfish) to be a cut above most "sound a like" albums. I'm so taken by this album that I'm putting a track on the air for Saturday's game. "Don't Let It Go" is one of the best tracks on the album...a rocker, very much like "Last Train To London" and "Turn To Stone"....

It's been a long time since I've actually written anything on this forum about what I've been listening to. I was disapointed with 2006...musically everyone went Artic Monkey's and, altho not a bad band, I found the album tended to wear a bit thin after repeat plays. Of course, 2006 boasted some classic releases, let us not forget the organic sound that Bruce Springsteen treated us with "We Shall Overcome" and one of my personal favorites KT Tunstall's Acoustic Extraviganza.

For 2007, my recomendations would be the Kaiser Cheifs newbie, a classic offering in every sense, Amy Winehouse's Back To Black, Norah Jones Not Too Late (groans from jl when I mentioned this one), Klaxons Myths Of The Near Future and The View Hats Off To The Buskers.

Of course I'm not forgetting Arcade Fire's Neon Bible, I just haven't played it enough to make my mind up if I should include it. One of the reasons would be that I have re discovered a couple of oldie gems...

...Thanks to the power of re issues and re mastered, Slade In Flame is one of my most played CD's and albums on the MP3 player at lunchtime. Tracks like How Does It Feel, Those Kinda Monkey's Can't Swing and Far Far Away are just brilliant...and strangely not out of sync of what is popular today. With that I have recently purchased Tom Robinson Band's Power In The Darkness. Overtly political maybe, but some of the sentiments still hold today (well, with the exception of Glad To Be Gay). The CD boasts the full album plus 2-4-6-8 Motorway and B side I Shall be Released (Mick and I were talking about what a top song that was on Sunday), the Rising Free EP ("Ave you ever known a bruver like Martin....MARTIN!!!) plus I'm All Right Jack... I've tried my best to find a song from this CD I can play at the games but they're far to hard hitting on the lyrical front. Or too dated...

And I shouldn't forget Deja Vue by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young...

Good music never dies...it just get's better....
