The merger got announced locally with a lot of publicity. Since then both sides of fans on forums seem to be debating why not to go ahead. From reading comments Vale appear to have big debts which United do not wish to take on. Vale obviously have a ground (on a lease from the council) & Utd are sharing at Chesham as the ground is not up to Southern league standards. The ground is on a flood plain which causes various environmental issues & has stopped any improvements so far. There will need to be at least 1 stand built but no sure what else is required. I've not seen any kind of official announcement on the SSML league minutes about Vale withdrawing from the league yet though.

Thought I saw somewhere (don't ask me where) that Vale weren't happy with a number of aspects that were too close to looking like a merger rather than a groundshare and have cooled on the idea a bit.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion Horace included, I don't want to see Haringey go down however surely they are odds on favourites, West Ham style, to do so. I don't know why you have suddenly brought Kentish Town into the equation as this thread is about relegation from the Premier Division, I guess it goes to show people simply can't stop talking about us which is flattering.

From an outsider's point of view, the "merger" seemed to put Vale out of existance with the Utd name to continue & the "new" club to play at Vale's ground. Neither side seem happy with the deal so I wouldn't be surprised to see them both in their respective leagues next season.

I'll ask my Aylesbury United supporting mate for the latest from their side.

As for who is going down, well it doesn't look good for Haringey but they are Houdini like in their ability to wriggle clear (oh my god I'm beginning to write like clip rods!) and I think they could do it again. If they can pick up a couple of wins in their next four games I think they could get out of it again. Colney Heath look to have slipped into trouble while Royston's defence is always going to cause them problems (but they did put four past Edgware). I think I'd have to plump for Royston and Colney Heath if two get relegated although Haringey need a win in one of their next two games.

Houdini like doesn't even begin to describe their antics over the past four seasons and you can throw David Blaine in too, every season is the same with it going down to the wire and then they are dramatically saved by a technicality or in last seasons case 'Sugar' being forced to dig deep and then praying to the big man in the sky that Brache Sparta's ground would not meet Premier Division criteria. Isn't it about time 'Sugar' stepped aside and handed the reigns over to someone else, someone with £2 million burning a hole in their back pocket for example.

Earth to Rhodesworld......

I said "no" to Haringey going down because I believe that Royston, Holmer Green and Colney Heath are showing no form, while Haringey are getting points. It wouldn't be the first time that I've been wrong though!

With only Ampthill and Brimsdown having acceptable grounds, if anyone else gets into the top two (possibilities include Stony Stratford and Cockfosters) then perhaps only one will go down. If only one club comes down from Step 4 then maybe no-one will be relegated!

What is the possibility of teams moving sideways?

There are about 5 teams who could potentially be relegated into SSMFL

If they were all to be relegated, would other clubs have to move to accomodate them?

I am thinking possibly of us (or Ruislip for example) going to the CCL and some of the 'northern' clubs perhaps going into the UCL

Can the FA command that to accomodate relegation?

I did hear that one UCL club wanted to transfer the other way.

There is also the possibility of western based clubs going to the Hellenic (Hounslow are there currently), and south eastern ones to the Essex Senior who are short of clubs. I wonder when the FA will get around to the step 5 reorg? I don't know who has the final say in where the relegated clubs go - the leagues or the FA.

Do you really fancy travelling through west London into Surrey every other weekend?

Chertsey was always a nice day out but I fancy the idea of travelling to Essex even less, which seems the most likely to recieve clubs moved sideways.

Also wouldn't fancy moving to a league rumoured to be for the chop when the next re-organisation comes round

I suppose if they get promoted Kentish Town are the most likely to be put in the Essex league (throws grenade and stands back with fingers in ears)

Where they are playing home games next year may be a factor. When is this announcement to be made Rhodes?

Can you imagine Rhodes on the ESL forum?

Be patient folks, all will be revealed by 31 March and I think some eyebrows will be raised!

Rhodes is your home ground going to be the stadium of light - which you will no doubt sell out weekly with season ticket holders and a backlog of people wanting tickets and because you create more revenue then Sunderland do on match days they will name a stand Clip rhodes? oooops sorry everyone i slipped into RhodesWorld for a second' stargate style'

I would say Colney Heath are one of the worst teams in the league, Holmer Green have improved as have Haringey. It depends how many teams are promoted as to how many will be relegated, it could be just one up one down.

Once again Gavin repeats what others have already said! Read the posts Gavin!
p.s. you've got the ref tonight who sent off Redford after 5 minutes for doing nothing! If you're straight out of the blocks from the first (?second) whistle, watch out for him stamping his early authority on the game!

Oh pardon me for NOT reading through the drival that people post re rhodes, and instead just going straight to leaving my message.

He will NEED to stamp his authority on the match otherwise it could get nasty, both on and off the pitch!
