The FA National League System Cup

Recommended Posts

The 61 FC (Luton) have been selected to represent the SSML (Division 2) in The FA National League System Cup.

So that means next Saturdays Div 2 fixture with Padbury has been called off and instead The 61 will travel to the Mid Sussex League in the Preliminary Round of the NLS Cup. Im not sure why 61FC were chosen, Crawley Green would have been the obvious choice, they are top of the league and have played most league games (where as we will have to cram in midweek fixtures) but we are very happy to be chosen and will hopefully do the SSML Div 2 justice.

Here is a bit about the NLS Cup, taken from thefa.com:

The NLS Cup, limited to leagues at Step 7 of the National League System and other leagues as decided by the Football Association, was created with the intention of finding a winning league representative side to fly the flag for England in the UEFA Regions Cup.

Competition is strictly for "amateur" players who must not be, or have been under a written professional contract at any time in their career.

The second FA National League System Cup competition, in partnership with Carlsberg, is now under way with 33 leagues having entered. The winners will be nominated as England's representatives in the 2006/2007 UEFA Regions Cup competition.

Well done, I think I posted about this comp a while ago, I know I did on the Tony Kemspter side. So in theory if the 61fc won through to the uk final and won that they would then go on to represent England in the finals of a proper UEFA tournament!

I think it takes place either every 2 or 4 years, and I think the finals are this year.
