Trotty will only come and watch reserves on the say so of Mark Weaths. ie if Mark thinks a player is worth a look. Unfortunatly the reserves have only played a few games since his last visit and there is no one new to look at so no point.

I have attended a few reserve games this season (and will be there on Tuesday) and I would say that I have seen MR and KP at reserve matches.

Must say that I do really enjoy attending these matches as when players make it into the squad you know a little about them.

Also as the management last season had no interest in anything other than the 1st team it is nice to see a structure put in place which WILL benefit the club in the future.

If the club only gets Louis Smith, Ken Bagley and Danny Whisker into the first team structure for next season they will have done very well. However,(and not whising to put pressure on them) I can see Kenny Pratt, Dan Allan and Jamie Stellion (appologies for spelling) being the Smit, Bagley and Whisker next season and, being full squad members the following season (2008/9). Now that is not bad 6 players from the reserves this season.

Do not forget also that the U18's (who I regret to say I have not seen yet) will progress into the reserves next season and the U16's the season after.

The future of Margate is in good hands and the future looks bright if we can keep up the momentum that was started this season.

Even Mr Ward as come to realise you cannot compete at this level with a team of solely local talent. It will be interesting to see a Rams team sheet next season. Also they are going to have to pay a bit more next year to keep the better players know some of the bigger clubs have seen them and spoken in the close season. As i said it will make for an interesting team sheet next year.

"Jim".

On the subject of the future and the good hands. I had a longish conversation with Mark W, at the race night. He was full of praise for the way the reserves have performed in this there 1st season and he was very excited about the talent that was coming through in the U18's/16's etc. He said give them 5 years and provided the gate were not in the Conference/pushing ( Mark W was realistic in realising that it would be very difficult to have a majority of local talent playing at that level) for the Foot ball league then most of our team would be home grown. Reserve team football is about sorting out talent nurturing it and either moving forwards or moving out to let others try. No body should have/want or be satisfied to have a regular billet in the reserves, that's not the animals nature.

I personally would like to see Dean Standen, Steve Mckimm, James Donovan and Young Sessay out on the field Tuesday night plus the lads of the bench Danny whisker, Young Allen and Nick Bagley to help get them fit.

You try it sometime and see how quickly your patience runs thin.

The facts are not one of these fringe players have come in and played and let the side down. In fact quite the opposite. Dolton came in with rave reviews then the next game he played was 6 games later with no match inbetween so he was not totally match fit with all hes proud family in the stands at HDP and us the fans slaged him off because he looked Knacked after 25 minutes I sat there with Craig Tucker who said to me he wanted to look at Doltons performance because he had heard rave reviews on the forum, Within 20 minutes all we heard were so called wanabe manager shouting abuse at the poor lad in full earshot of hes family. I wonder why hes looked elsewhere?

Wisker played he's last first team game against Whitstable and came on for provs who wasnt performing that day and we were down 1-0. as the threads at the time said he change the game got stuck in in mid-field and played really well we won 2-1 so prehaps that day your point about playing provs or wisker are wrong.

Smith has played several games starting and in paticular on Saturday was put out of possition on the left had a resonable game but should have stayed on and Trotty should have come off, Wisker came on in the middle of the park with Jay and all of a sudden the team looked more balanced.

Baggley has come in recently and even won MOM so again a good young lad who has done hes job.

So really your points dont ring true the simple facts are you need a balance of seasoned players with a good youth policy these lads need to be played more, even if its for the last 10 mins especially when we are losing and they might just give us the little bit extra to get back the game.

We could also do without Mike F basicly saying the fringe players are not good enough for him or Margate, As per he,s after match interview. What message has that sent out to Smith, Wisker, Baggley and even Donavan. If I was one of those players i'd tell him to stick the club up his [****!!****] and go on to pastures new.

Just my opinion

Excellent post.
The club should be doing all it can to encourage local talent. In recent years Ramsgate have been able to attract most of the good local players. In that time there crowds have gone up by about 500% and they have had 2 promotions.
So it's good to see that maybe the club are now looking more at local players. But surely training in Beckenham has to be a nonsense. I cant think of any other club in the country that travels over 70 miles away from there home ground?

SS may well be proved right but he could also end up being proven wrong. Plenty of players have been told there not good enough look at somebody like Ian Wright told he wasnt good enough for Millwall. He works his way up via the Kent league and into the England team. And there are plenty of others. Players like Hatch and Kedwell were at Herne Bay!

The thing that appeals to lots of us about local players is it creates more interest locally and that a lot of the players will be more hungry for success with their local team.

A few seasons ago Akpo Sodge was apparently not good enough as a striker for Margate.

(personally i thought he was, but most supporters and the Manager did not.

Conversely, i always thought Darren Watson would 'make it'-guess i got that one wrong big time )

But how do you know if they are good enough if you don't give them a go.

If the likes of Baggley Wisker and Smith are not good enough in the Managements eyes why sign them in the first place ?

This is'nt the case I know because RT and Mf are no mugs they both know if a player is good enough or not.

I just think it would have been better for all concerned to sign them on contract and stick them out on loan and bring them up through the lower Kent leagues for a season and see how they progress.

It works both ways then, because you keep them on contract so if they come good you bring them into the first team if not they have been in the shop window playing lower league football and may get signed by someone who has seen them play.

Also that way they are contantly gaining valueble experience keeping up match fitness and if we get suspensions or injuries like we have at present we could have brought back a match fit experience player instead of a player who has only played 180 minutes of football in the last 3 months. Which is counter productive because he just gets slated by the fans and gets frustrated.

However last week's opponents Boreham Wood have a good youth setup. Six of their first team squad are home-grown; 1 started against us and two more came on as subs I believe.
