Edgware LOSE at home to WGC!

Recommended Posts

Well, its happened, after a 23 game unbeaten run, Edgware have lost a match. No complaints really, as we did not turn up in the first half, something that has been a problem too many times this season, only playing in one half, and sooner or later we were going to get punished. WGC scored two early goals in the first 20 minutes, both of which were put away well, but both due to the home defence NOT closing down the WGC attackers enough.

Edgware barely tested the WGC keeper, in the first half and fully deserved to be two down at the break.

Second half Edgware changed it round a bit, and looked a lot more up for it, a goal was pulled back from Greg Ngoyi, and after the WGC keeper was shown red for coming out of his area bringing down Adam Wallace. Richard Morton took the resulting free kick, but his trademark thunderbolt was incredibly saved by the defender who went in goal to replace the sent off keeper.

Morton had another shot strike the crossbar and bounce away, as Edgware went in search of an equaliser, but instead got caught out and let a third goal in to kill the match off.

Fair play to WGC, they battled away and with 10 men the stand in keeper did very well.

HUGE game on Tuesday against Harefield, who if they were to beat us and win their 3 games in hand would be just 3pts behind us!

With Hertford drawing today and dropping two points they should remember that Harefield have NOT applied for promotion and there is still a chance that if Hertford get 2nd place depending on the other step 5 leagues they could still be promoted in 2nd place, so they still got a lot to play for when they meet Harefield twice.

Horace must be gutted at Hertford's draw and failing to gain on us as he has yet to post, will be interesting to see what he says about his clubs draw and our defeat, not a good day for the top two frown

I think Horace and Hertford have almost given up..however you lot must be sweating a little over Harefield, it is a tough order for them but if they win on Tuesday it could be a big momentum switch (although their two games v the Hares are vital too). However if you beat them I think that could be game set and match to you guys.

Should be a good game on Tuesday.

I agree Lato, HUGE game for us on Tuesday, as you rightly say, a win for them will give them a huge confidence boost, not that they need one as they are on a fine run and are the form team in the league now. A win for us though, and its going to be neigh on impossible for them to catch us. The thing that may well swing their games with Hertford is that as I mentioned Harefield have not applied for promoton, whereas Hertford have and if they hold on to second spot then they could still be promoted depending on what happens in other leagues.

If we were to blow the title now and still win promotion it would be a very hollow victory indeed.

Right now I would settle for a draw from Tuesdays match, but if were to lose then its going to open it right up, and make the final ten matches very interesting to say the least!

Last time I spoke to the Harefield Chairman (at our aborted game in December) I'm sure he said they had applied for promotion. I think they applied last year and the ground has improved since then so I find it a little odd if they haven't.

According to the another site they have not applied, but of course this could be wrong. However I seem to remember when TK posted in this forum and said he or his brother had connections with Harefield and that he had not heard they had applied.

I find it odd as well, as their ground is tidy and seems up to standard and after last season they had thier noses put out of joint when us and Hertford joined the league.

I said all along it would be us Hertford and Harefield and that was before I had even seen a ball kicked. I just thought that Harefield would be there or thereabouts after missing out last season, and that we would be stong and that Hertford would be contenders. If you look at Chalfont St Peter who came with us from Ryman 2 they have done ok and are in the top 10, as are a much improved Kingsbury, both of whom I expect to be up there next season.

WGC/Oxhey/Broxbourne are all sides that could be up there next season and maybe yourselves as well, and Tring and Leverstock.

I am not over confident about our game on tuesday, even if we had of won today, I knew the Harefield match was always going to be the match where we could come unstuck. Who knows, after going 23 unbeaten we could find ouselves on the back of 2 straight defeats, and to think that Horace said we had made the league boring.

I actually did a 'Horace' today as my article in the programe said that consistency was the key and we wer the most consistent I did however mention that football has a funny knack of kicking you where it hurts when you least expect it and not to get complacent.

Our new signing Greg Ngoyi has been nickamed the 'beast' and it was funny as there were a few of us (ok four) who were singing today and were chanting 'the beast here comes the beast' when he came on and scored. After WGC scored their 3rd we heard a group of their fans chant 'we dont need the beast' to which we sang 'we wont play you anymore' good banter, and to be fair their celebrations at the end were no supprise as they must have been very happy at beating the top of the table run away leaders.

Got it in one PBT!

Can't make up my mind whether I want Edgware or Harefield to win now! Edgware could do us a favour but... I really want Harefield to stuff them because of the way the game came about!

..
As I said you could still get second spot if you take points off Harefield, I think we could edge the game with them, but I am not over confident, this may sound mad, but I think our season starts now!

It has been an upsetting weekend Gavin, almost everything has gone against us in the last couple of days! The only plus is that the MK Dons lost.

Yeah but have you seen the new MK Dons stadium! what an impressive site, while Luton are still trying to leave their old ground which you must admit they have outgrown and is well past its sell by date.

I still dont see how they expect to fill the new MK Dons stadium with 30,000 for league 2 games, but in a bizare way they have done what they said they would do, which is supply Wimbledon with a stadium of their own, albeit now Wimbledon are MK Dons

I have seen the new staduim being built from ground up and I must admit it does look very impressive, the rumour going around at the moment is that they are having financial trouble with it and the cost keeps esculating. They have no chance of filling though Gavin, unless they are prepared to throw away 20,000 free tickets per match of course.

As for our ground, it was past its sell by date years ago, we have been after a new ground for so long no chairman has wanted to put money into a stadium that the club has wanted to move away from, even more so as we don't own the ground either.

Rumours still persist that we are going to groundshare at Milton Keynes, or worst merge with the Dons, but I think Luton fans have been so worried about the lure of MK for so long now it has almost become a habit to be linked with the place.

Yes I remember Luton being linked with moves and mergers to MK years ago. I dont see how they intend to fill their stadium at MK but it does look very good from the pictures I have seen so far.

I am supprised, NO shocked, that no one has come on here saying haha Edgware lost, etc etc, and am supprised there was not more comment about our first defeat for 23 league matches.

So come on, are Harefield or Hertford going to catch us? another defeat tomorrow and it could really open the league up, but hopefully we will get the 3pts

Hey Gav...I've just dared look at the league table...not good reading after our last 3 league results (2 draws and a defeat)...We have hit a bit of a brick wall since our goalless draw with you although the Tring result was one of them days that we could have played until midnight and not scored !...Saturdays 0-0 with a much improved Bigg Town was a good battle in diffcult conditions...After such an excellent long run of results I guess any team would eventually hit a bit of a dip in form...I guess this applies to you as well after Saturdays result...Thing is now though is Harefield are flying and can seriously push you all the way if they can get a result at your place 2morrow... As for us !...well...we need to get are arses in gear pretty quick and start another winning streak...as alot of people on here have been saying all season 'Its a Marathon and not a sprint'

Probably not Gav, especially Hertford if they continue to play like they have over the last couple of games.

Do you reckon playing the previous Thursday affected your performance on Saturday?
