City 2 Southport 2

Hmmm... not quite the blood and thunder encounter I was expecting. Unlucky to go behind in the 35th minute but a well-taken equaliser by Chrissy Watters in the second half.

They went ahead again unexpectedly but then a rather strange equaliser by us. Overall we were a bit unlucky not to win.

Positives? Hastings looks OK, and Matty Hann, 'Jimmy' and Ahmed all had good games. Lopez came on but I didn't really notice him much.

Need to get the ball down and make the passing a lot more crisper if we're to get anything out of Tuesday's game. Oh, and get some power behind the attempts on goal, much of today's were more like back-passes.

Bad luck Saints. It looks from the stats in the Non-League Paper like you should have won this one. It's going to be tough to stay up now but there's still a chance with others around you playing each other.

We (York City) will try and do the Saints a favour tomorrow night by beating Cambridge United and I hope you can do us a favour too by beating D&R.

Good luck!

10 REASONS WHY ST. ALBANS WAS SUCH A GREAT AWAY DAY .

1. Beautiful city and so many brilliant pubs in quaint cobbled streets.

2. Southport fans - absolutely brilliant, possibly upto 200 in total and they sang throughout the game.

3. The Hawaiian shirt boys - respect to you, great shirts, great repertoire of old classic Southport songs, great humour - you lads made the day memorable. ( I only hope you can remember that you did!!!).

4. Finding the Red Lion pub near the Cathedral, to be greeted by the friendly Landlord recommending a decent beer and then commenting " there's lots of you Southport boys here today then, a gang of you were in earlier and have just moved on to other pubs - he then went on to list about 6 more pubs that were on the route to the game!

5. Being greeted in the same pub by a friendly Gasometer and Birkers plus half a dozen more Southport fans with the words - " well what are you guys called on Portchat".

6. The friendly groundstaff at St. Albans.

7. The looks of horror/fear/surprise on a group of about 15 local chav boys who seemed to be waiting for the Southport contingent to exit the ground - only to be greeted by the first fans leaving after the game who were the Hawaiian shirted boys who were certainly in no mood to be delayed by a few St. Alban chavs - the parting of the Red Sea was probably less spectacular than the way the chavs parted for the Hawaiian shirts. The chavs continued to hurl insults but from a much safer range of about 30 yards!

8. Beautiful spring weather.

9.Hayden Preece wishing us a safe journey home as we passed the team bus after the match.

10. The idea of an away day theme, not universally recognised, but as mentioned earlier the Hawaiian lads certainly made their presence felt.

The singing of the old classic Southport anthems (well songs!) was almost 'Hereford' like in its volume.

Sad to say - I saw the incident near the away fans burger stand. They were inside the ground - older teenagers I'd guess - not a steward in sight.

Its a game of football - no need for shouting abuse at visitors. It could very easily have got nasty.

Apologies to Southport fans - there are chavs everywhere!

Must be the same Chavs who were in the bar afterwards trying to stir things up with the guys from Southport in the Hawaian shirts. These kids must be really dense because if you saw the size of these guys from Southport they would have made mincemeat of them if they wanted to and turned them into a paler shade of Burberry.

Credit to the lads from Southport who were intent on enjoying their day out, just as we intend to enjoy our day out this weekend, without those Chavs.
