...most of the league's worst surfaces hosting games this Saturday, if the weather holds as expected, we may, only may get a full hand in this week.

How come Bowers didn't re-arranged their Burnham game for tonight? Barking managed that last week...

coups, It generally takes a saturated pitch 2-3 days to drain and get back to a playable condition, unfortunatly it seems to have rained every day on/off for the past month, and the pitch has really suffered, without ripping it up and starting again (worked for birmingham whistle) theres not a lot else we can do.

how many esl teams have a groundsman?

I would have said, from memory, that significant amounts of rain have fallen on most days of this year and whoever has to look after ESL pitches must have had a hell of a struggle up to now. Let's hope the weather has turned for the better.
I've had a quick look at some of the ESL websites (and not every ESL club has a website of course) but this is what I found out about a random selection:
Barking - no groundsman mentioned at all
Barkingside - no groundsman mentioned. 'Side share with Redbridge whose website refers to a 'Premises Manager John Taylor' but no groundsman is mentioned
Basildon -no groundsman mentioned
Burnham -Groundsmen: Shaun Pugh/Martin Leno
Concord -no groundsmen mentioned
I looked in the most likely places (eg behind the scenes, Committee members etc) but it seems that only 1 in 6 clubs give credit for the work of groundstaff.
God only knows how some of the pitches this year have managed to have had lines painted on 'em let alone all the other work needed.
Whoever looks after the grounds, thanks a million and I do hope you are properly appreciated wherever you are

Speaking for Barking, we have a very good pitch, thanks to two things.

Our late owner Peter had the pitch verti-drained, and it works.

Thanks to Dennis and Brad and other people its kept in reasonable nick.

(I think with verti-draining they put tubes in all over it)
