Guess who was at the game tonight...

Jesus! what the hell happened?

I noticed that Macca was missing (Paul that is),any way that could have affected the result? and did Sasha play in centre of defence?

judging by confguide we should have been 4-0 up at half time.

we really didn't need this, especially after the Kiddy result, consolidation was required.

GUTTED!!!

is that it for us now? I'm not usually negative, but it just feels that the playoffs are slipping away and for the time being are no longer in our hands, whereas wind a few games back and it was! Gotta win at Stafford now, and start to hope that stevenage/morecambe etc lose. Along with this we have a busy period, for our smallish squad.

[end of unusual negative outburst(from me)]

Still I think we stay in the mixer and theres still a good chance results will go our way..

C'mon you reds, look forward to another chance to see the lads at Stafford.

We were simply outmanaged.

Started off brightly enough 3-5-2 as usual, but with an unfamiliar back 3.

Not unexpectedly we went in 1-0 at half time.

Weymuff's manager used tactics, initiative, intelligence, guile, whatever, but put the young no 28 wide left in order to exploit the weekness in our formation, to which we had no answer. Slatter cottoned on, and played right back.

The remaining midfield stuck to the centre, leave a HUGE gap on the right, which Weymuff duly exploited - and presto we were 2-1 down, both goals being built from their left flank.

After 30 minutes of this, LD FINALLY realised what we had all been screaming for, brought Ledgister and Sodje on as support for Slatter - but not for the first time, the substitutions were way too late to make an impact.

We all saw the problem after 50 minutes, why couldn't those on the bench.

Changes should have been made then.

Man of the match - a few candidates, MacDonald was awesome - ran his heart out and on another day could have scored 4.

Moore - worked hard, linked well with Mac and scored a great goal. Long looked a class above anyone else in midfield - it will be difficult to keep him in the summer - he looks destined for the football league.

Best of all was Sacha, had a sensational game, in a slightly unfamiliar role. Passion, great tackles, top class heading, cool on the ball and good distribution.

Not a great night tactically, the players cannot be faulted, they gave 100%, and in patches played some wonderful football, and denied by a splendid display by the Weymuff keeper.

LD really must address these late substitutions, we were NEVER going to score 2 goals in the final 10 minutes, for goodness sake - give the players time to make a mark.

Looked really good 1st half, although their keeper should have been tested more.

2nd half, the early reply seemed to throw us - it came down our dreded right back position again with Slatter not closing down again.

Without the injured McArthy (who, of course now misses the next 2 games through suspension), the defence wasnt as strong as always seems to be the case when he doesnt play -

We didnt really create much after we went behind & WEymouth probably deserved the win overall.

I suppose its the ups & downs of football. Now drop to 6th - we will drop to 7th if Stevenage win their game in hand, although we could be back level with York if we won our game in hand on them.

1 defeat doesnt kill the play off hopes, but it puts more pressure on again for the game at Stafford next week.

Incidentally, I see from the programme that 5 of our last 7 will now be at home - the Northwich game has been rearranged for Thursday 19th April according to the programme, fitting in between the Southport & St Albans games, just after Halifax & FGR (Alty away in between the FGR & Southport games).

Its a good run in, but we mustnt blow our chances before then

The lads gave it everything, charlie was working his nuts off, We just seemed to concede defeat after their second goal. I agree about the substitutions, again, very late into the game, when the chance of getting something from the game has more than likely gone.

Although I do feel we got what we deserved from the game, they just wanted it more last night.

Lee Turner was also present, as he often is - anyone else?

A very similar home game to those this season against Kiddy and Stafford - i.e. we create lots of chances and only take one, the opposition have only a few and take them all. To lose in this manner three times at home in one season could prove costly.

That said, we recovered well from those two setbacks, so let's hope the same happens again.

If Hawkins is absent from the next two games, last night demonstrated how significant this could be with McCarthy also out. It was interesting to note that makeshift centre-backs were used rather than James Smith, who was on the bench. He may not have been 100% after supposedly missing Saturday's game through injury, but it'll be intriguing to see whether he makes the starting XI against Stafford if Hawkins is still out.

Are you sure that was Aaron Kerr? I saw him leaning on the bars at the Plough End but wasn't too sure if it was him. Definitly the same hair cut though.

Victor Meldrew was also there. For some reason he seemed to be jumping up and down with his arms in the air in a celebratery fashion every time the Muff scored. He was also updating the crowd every time a goal went in at another game. He wasn't shouting the results out he'd just tell a few people within his range.

Well I ventured back to Gravesend on Tuesday night, my sixth visit this season and the first loss I have seen. I though the Fleet played really well in the first half and should have been 2 or 3 goals to the good and not just the one. Credit to the Weymouth manager who changed things at the start of the second half and that seemed to give them more of the ball and create chances. We kept fighting and have good chances in the second half and it was a frustrating night. Hope the Fleet can get back on track next week and keep going till the end of the season. I still feel, personally a top 10 finish would be some achievement.
