Not too much skill on offer, what with a bad pitch, swirling breeze, and end-to-end low sun.

First half Scott saved well after a Proths mistake, then Danny should have scored after their defensive error. AFC missed a few chances towards the end of the half.

Second half started fairly even, with a Pinns left foot volley just wide after excellent build-up play by JJ and Danny. Jay went wide soon afterwards after being fed by Danny.

AFC pressed us back for a good portion of the 2nd half, but luckily for us were ineffective in front of goal. Scott saved one, but really the player should have scored. We had another chance about 5 mins from the end, but apart from that it was mainly AFCW.

Player ratings:

SCS 7 – excellent saves, not so good kicking and distribution.

Greg 5 – up against their best player Ferguson, who got the better of him most of the time. Got booked in the first half when beaten for pace.

Trotty 7 – sound.

Pat 8 – good defending and passing.

Louis 7 – not bad considering he was playing out of position on the left.

Jay 6 – worked hard as ever on the right wing.

Proths 6 – handicapped by the stodgy pitch. Some misplaced passes. Didn’t get the time and space to line up his shots. Good set pieces.

Dean 5 – worked hard but passing not so good.

Jimmy 7 – good play on the left but misses his partner Skins.

Pinns 6 – loads of running, a good volley. Carried the ball backwards a bit too much.

Danny 7 – some excellent passing, but didn’t get many shots in. Had to run after hopeful long balls, especially in the second half.

As always there was a good atmosphere, with noise from the Gate fans mainly in the second half (about 50-60 down that end?).

AFC were very nice about Margate in their programme: most hospitable team in the league etc., which is very kind of them considering we made them stand in the freezing rain that night. Perhaps the fact we sympathised with them recently had something to do with it.

(My personal opinion: 18 points is ridiculous for a paperwork error when they didn’t seek any advantage. As someone said on here why not just make the player miss the number of matches he supposedly played illegally?)

Some comments from Wombles fans near me: it’s Margate’s cup final (arrogant gits) / the ref is letting them get away with murder / Hockton is better than our defenders / that’s what we will have to contend with if we make the playoffs / we won’t win the appeal.

Anyway nice to see some football after (for me) a long gap. Hope the game goes ahead on Tuesday.

Some agreement with you Chris - SCS & Pat my men of the match. Hard to choose between them - yes, SCS kicking at times was dodgy!

Don't think the downpour just before kick off helped.

Overall, think we deserved the point - if we had scored then we would have been very lucky today. A reasonably good defensive performance apart from a couple of dodgy Trotty headers!!

As for the 18 points - rules are still rules. They can get as many MP's on their side as they want but they still deserve the punishment.

Yes, they are still arrogant - YOU ARE NOT WIMBLEDON FC!!! They play in Milton Keynes and are called the MK Dons!!!

I was very happy with the point and said i would be happy with a boring 0-0 draw. I thought we were very negative half-way in the second half after starting of well. Pat Sappleton was awesome today by far his best performance of the season and i thought Trott and Oates also had a good game. What really let us down was our midfeild, had we been better in midfeild today i think we would have won. It was game that was screaming for a goal, but never happened.

AFC Wimbledon were poor today aswell and we did not make much of their defence which looked weak and vulnerable, they were dreadful up front, but were quite good in midfeild. Roscoe D'Sane was awarded MOTM and i can't understand why as he was very poor.

Overall a good point, but a poor performance.

The important thing today is that it wasn't a defeat, and another game out of the way allowing another much missed suspended player back. I believe that means Justin Skinner returns on Tuesday now. Unfortunately we dropped another place and need a win Tues (weather permitting) so as not to widen the gap on Bromley. No games in hand now to help get to the top.

Well i have to say its great to go to these games with big crowds and a great atmosphere.

Really enjoyed today. Pat S was awesome and really we probably had the best chances to win. They overan us at times but we were good for a point.

Well done the hard core. Outsung ther lot second half. Our pitch is never that bumpy just unplayable! Nice day out. Oh yes excellent remarks in the programme about our hospitality at Hartsdown. Management get some things right.

A good (mainly) solid performance at the back today and I'm happy with the result overall. Pat as others have said was great and SCS made some good vital saves. On epoint though: I think we need to have Pinnock play further up with Hockton as when Danny gets the ball up front he runs it out wide as he trys to lose his marker but then there is no-one to cross the ball to in the box, so he has to try and keep possession until support arrives.

I disagree with you wholeheartedly there Chris. At the start of the season all clubs get a copy of the Ryman League Handbook. In this, rule '6.8 PLAYING AN INELIGIBLE PLAYER' clearly states that.....

Any club found to have played an ineligible player in a match shall have any points gained from that match deducted from it's record and have levied on it a fine in accordance with the Fines Tariff. The Company (Isthmian League) may vary the decision in respect of the deduction of points onlu in a case where a substitute player participates in a match or is listed on the Official team sheet but does not participate in that match.

Jermaine Darlington's League appearances have all been 'starts' so in accordance with League rules all points gained will be deducted. If the League agreed to reduce the deduction then it just opens the door for other clubs to play ineligible players and no recieve the punishment that is clearly laid out in the handbook.
The only exception to this would be if it turns out that there was an error at the League's end and AFC were given the impression it was ok to play him.

Listen I don't dispute it's in the rules. The rules are wrong. The people who wrote the rules should now amend them. They weren't handed down from a mountain on stone tablets.

This is sport... entertainment.

AFCW didn't fill in a bit of paper. If they had filled in the bit of paper, how different would the league table look today? No different at all.

Ok levy some kind of punishment; after all, we couldn't have players from abroad (like Wales!) playing in the Ryman league without proper jobsworthy forms being filled in, could we? God, the world would turn upside down.

But 18 points? Supposing the guy played every game this season before the crime was uncovered. Do you think a 60 or 80 point deduction would be fair?

It's crap. This is people with a little bit of petty authority showing how hard they are.

I want Margate to win the league, or at least get promoted. But I tell you, if we went up because of this, I for one would have a very sour taste in my mouth.

Well Chris, I think you'd be in a minority! Rules are set - they are in plain english and black & white. AFC broke them, they get punished.

As I said before, when we got docked 10 points no-one felt sorry for us. Only the smart thinking of having them applied before the new season (as we were already relegated) saved us from the problems of the following season and starting with -10!
