All three of these gave the ball away too often to be real man of the match contenders, with the latter's ball control (partly owing to the bobbly pitch) not its usual self - although I suppose it's fair to say none of our players were at their very best and it was hard to find too many genuine choices. Opinel just shaded it for me though.

A victory really was robbery, given that in the second half Kiddy had all of the pressure and we hadn't created anything at all until the winner. The midfield barely saw the ball in the second half as the ball went from defence to attack and came back again. This pattern of play underlined how much we missed MacDonald's ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play - in his absence, ball retention up front was limited.

As for Cronin, while I wouldn't go as far as agreeing with superb and saying he had a 'good game' overall, he certainly helped redeem himself towards the end with some assured handling when the pressure was on.

All this considered, though, the fact we still managed to win in adversity says something for the resilience of this team. Strangely, smash-and-grab victories are often more satisfying than convincing ones.
