Best away games?

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased the supporters guide to non league football (step 3 clubs) which just arrived this morning. Having read over it thsi morning, it got me wondering what you guys considered to be the best away game, the reasons why.

Presumably the derby match is one everyone looks forward to but what about the rest of the games? From the small pics on offer, Margate and Folkestone Invicta appear to have neat wee grounds. Would I be right in thinking that one or both of these towns are fairly touristy? What do you all consider to be the best away games?

Tend to have different reasons for liking/not liking grounds usually based on past performances there!

The AFC Wimbledon experience is obviously different from all other league games due to the size of the crowd and that all the away supporters stand together.

Chelmsford again is different due to the Derby aspect (cant see anyone saying this as a favourite ground tho!)

From the season so far I liked Tonbridge, second time I have been there it has good parking, two refreshment areas and the ground itself is neat and tidy and of course we won!

Also like Boreham Wood and Staines.

I think folk used to enjoy going to Aldershot away. Got to the stage where we were afforded police escorts to and from ground after a few visits! (they did not like us much) grin Margate and folkestone are not what you might call as touristy anymore Colin. They used to be years ago but the demise of the seaside holiday sort of killed them off somewhat. As for other away days, yes i suppose chelmsford is ok but that is for the magnitude of a derby match certainly not the ground whistle (kidding clarets)

I personally like the grounds where we go by train at times. We have a resident advance party who are always at an away venue by 10am no matter where, and then we get informed of the best watering hole if it is a new ground. However, we have been to all the grounds in our leage a good few times and my personal favourite away day is anywhere we win ! Still trhink the best away day was up at Rushden&Diamonds few years back. A ground that is not disimilar to Livingston (i think) - and we had our own bars etc. Oh and we had this character who turned up paraletic on home made wine who kept chanting "we;ve been to wembley, we've been to wembley you aint"! He was really funny! Especially as he had braces and pin stripe suit!
