You can't be serious ?

Daish would have been long gone had you had your way.....or have you forgotten that little episode ???

edit...decorum, once again, has intervened and stopped me from voicing additional comments !! But readers are invited to guess what they may have been !

Looking at the team as posted by the BBC:

Gravesend: Cronin, McCarthy, Ross Smith, Opinel, Slatter (Ricketts 71), DeBolla (Ledgister 90), Quinn, Long, Keeling, Varney (Sodje 71), Moore.

Subs Not Used: Mott, Coleman.

Presume we were playing Opinel in a back 3 before Ricketts come on who presumably went to right back for 4-4-2 ? Seems even more reason to play 4 at the back from the outset.

Couldn't really comment on this, it needs to come from one of those who went.

Possibly one of the main problems with 442 is LD having to accomodate all of his preferred midfielders, of which there seems to be 5 (Slater DeBolla Quinn Long and Keeling).

With the extra cover of a back 4, there is less need for a holding midfielder. We could go a flat mid of 4, or paly a diamond shape as advocated by Fleet Fanatic. Both 4 man midfield formations work well, so long as the understanding between the centre two is good, if one goes forward, the other holds back.

Based on recent performances , we need to work on some basic fundamentals.

1) Try and create a chance from every attacking free kick and corner.

2) Stop moaning. I am really fed up with the likes of Luke Moore moaning at every decisions goign against him.

3) when clearing the ball under pressure , try and kick it into row z, Not pretty , but cronins antics yesterday could have been costly , and late on , becuase he was on a yellow , wasnt able to take time on goal kicks etc.....

As for team selection , I cannot see what Quinn gives to the team. Absent AGAIN yesterday. I was thinking that his game had improved because the glaring mistakes from earlier in the season ahve disappeared , but thats probably due to him disapearing as well.

My man of the match was Opinal who was always tryign to get involved , full of running and some crucial challanges

This hits the nail on the head. The formation can of course be fluid between 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 depending where the ball is on the pitch, and so the distinction between the two isn't always all that clear-cut. Basically, the formation became more like 4-4-2 as the game progressed, with Ricketts' introduction for Slatter making the defence more like a back four, and Ledgister's appearance right at the end turning the midfield into more of an orthodox four with two natural wide players.

The problem Daish has, and a perfectly understandable one given our league position, is that he has more than 11 players who have served him well and have strong claims to be in the starting XI - hence the fact that our formations often feature players slightly out of their favoured positions.

Based on his performances earlier in the season, it would be nice to see Ricketts starting more games in order for him to get his match fitness back - something that can be tricky in the absence of regular reserve matches.

This is gonna become critical at the end of our season , with stupid yellows dished out for dissent by jobsworth refs leading to suspensions , especially for the likes of Luke Moore - we will need every available player for the run in , and to cover any injuries or out of position possibilties .
