Grays 2 City 1

The results this season prove what a massive gap in standards there is between the two divisions. The longer we stay in the top division, the longer we will be overstretched. If we went down this season, I think we would be a good Conference South club again. Stay any longer and we will end up like Kingstonian, Enfield, Aylesbury United, Margate and Fisher Athletic, playing in a much lower level when the bubble bursts. Even ex-Conference National clubs Hayes and Farnborough Town are struggling in the Conference South.

From a neutral point of view it was about fitness tonight. As the game wore on Grays looked stronger and fitter whilst Saints looked dead on their feet and struggled to keep possession.

Grays were an average side but their full time fitness told in the end.

Bastock made some blinding saves especially the one in the first half. Was impressed with Davis in the midfield but you didn't have anybody up front to hold the ball up and take the pressure off the defence.

Horrendous mistake for their winning goal. No wonder Bastock went mad.

Thought you were worth a draw tonight and hope you stay up instead of them gyppo bastards.

what about forest green? they grabbed the last safety spot enough times to build on their position. others have had disastrous financial woes. what about us? are our books remaining reasonably balanced?

as mrs nilnilphill and i have been travelling, we have not yet seen a single conf game. i set the alarm for 4am for the second half of the grays game. needless to say i struggled to sleep after that. we will return early from our trip to see the finale v muff, hoping that it wont end in tears. well ive said my piece, except to say that we must keep the faith and, perhaps, sneek a win at morcombe. 10pm kick off for us - we will be watching from afar.

I thought you were unlucky last night. Not a bad game but I thought a draw would have been a fairer result. I had feared the worst when Grays scored early. Impressed by the fight and determination that was reminiscent of the game at Oxford United. Some great songs from the Saints faithful - I loved the one about confusing Lakeside with culture!

Good to see Ian Ridley there. I didn’t realise he was still supporting you despite stepping down from the board.

why would we end up like those clubs mentioned?

Although JKiF and I will forever disagree about Chris Piper's performance against Enfield that night at The Woood in 1999 - he was rubbish that night, along with the rest of 'em - I share his sentimemts on this one, Middxsaint, but from a slightly differewnt perspective.

If the unthinkable happens, our performance in the Conference South will depend wholly upon how the Board, the playing side and the fans have prepared for it, whether it's next season, or the one after that or whenever.

Financially, The Mighty Saints can never have been in a more healthy position than they will be at the end of this current season. How the Board deal with matters on the pitch will be key to what happens next.

Braintree still in with a shout of making the play offs.

May get two trips to Bath though.

A late night visit to the station, Laz?

Trust me it is!!! I left the clubhouse too early last night and misjudged the amount of time it would take me to walk back to the station.

I ended up waiting over 10 minutes for my train. There were some absolute weirdos hanging around. I've never felt so glad to see a train turn up in my life!!!!
