Any news in the Thanet Times

Anything exciting to report to us poor exiles in todays TT.

I take it that RT has still not managed to sign any players-even on loan.

I read on the Ryman forum (as reported b a Wombles fan) that MFC are officially backing Wimbledon in their case to have the points deduction overhauled.

Seeems a slightly odd move to me.

Is it true, and does it give a reason.

Makes me refer back to my post of a few days ago where i asked-'do we actually want to get promotion' ?

there was rob and it states that MFC have been in touch with AFC Wombles giving there full surport to them as MFC think they have had enough punishment and it would not be good to lose the 18pts as well , this left the Wombles surprised as them and us are fighting for the right to win promotion to the Conf sth.

Jim Ward has said he and Ramsgate will not be happy and fight the case if the Wombles were to win there appeal.

What the hell????? They made their bed - they lie in it!!! We got no sympathy or support when we were docked 10 points!! That's madness - personally I think they deserve it - they might have messed up but its tantamount to cheating and that I will not support.

Ridiculous - let the league decide their fate - still think they're Wimbledon FC of the Premiership. Well, big news AFC, they'll be playing at their own stadium in Milton Keynes very soon!!!!

I think the big issue is the scale of the penalty, whilst I feel there should be some penalty I'd say 18 points is OTT. The fact is that someone from either the FA and/or the Ryman League must have rubber stamped the transfer, so it's their oversight too. The Dons have been punished financially by being kicked out of the Trophy (to the benefit of the 'Fleet - who are about to get their second payday since being beaten in the competition). But as it took so long for the FA and/or the Ryman League to act perhaps the best penalty would be to ban the offending player from competing in the same number of games as he has played illegally (think that's 11 League fixtures so that's effectively the end of his season)- it's penalising AFC but not as unscrupulously as docking a third of their season's points.

Be honest Tony T, we were relegated from the Conference South then we went into a CVA or whatever it's called, so we'd be docked points in a relegation season & not the following season (we used timing to avoid the effects of the deduction) & we got away with it.

Oh I understand that bit - it was actually quite clever but didn't see us get any sympathy! I believe Farnborough are in the same position? But at least they won't (probably) get relegated.

As far as I can see the League are sticking rigidly to the rule book - and in this day and age that's quite unusual!

I think the problem was that the player didn't have international clearence, ie work permit, so technically he was employed illegally on an immigration front. The Home Office could have slapped AFC with a 2k fine for doing so!
