Fleet in the Trophy

Can you help me out please?

 

I seem to remember that I was told when the Fleet last got to the last eight (and that horrible night against Bishops Stortford at Stonebridge Road) that that equalled the clubs best - and that it was only the second time that the club had reached the last eight!

 

Can anyone give me some details please - years; opponents, scores (and scorers if known!)

the time before was the promation year we lost to Stalybridge Celtic at home 2-0.

 

attendance was 962.

Also it was bloody freezing (it was snowing when we arrived at the ground) and we were totally outplayed from start to finish from a side rooted at the foot of the conference.
After that performance I remember thinking that even if we did go up we would be coming straight back down again, which shows what I know and also answers the question raised on another thread about are we ready for promotion this year.....bring it on and we will give it a go.

Remember that game well. Like you, I couldn't help but be overawed by the apparent gulf in standard between the top of the Ryman and bottom of the Conference.

But we got up, somehow survived the first year scramble to stay up, and at least this year look a formidable Conference team that, unless we get promoted, look very established.

I'm sure we've only reached the last eight once (Bishops Stortford). Stalybridge was last 16 (as was, I think, Macclesfield in 1989):

You're are actually right - Stortford was the only other time the Fleet reached the last 8. Found a website that lists every single FA Cup game / FA Trophy / FA Vase match played by every side!

I remember a rather humorous moment after Stalybridge had tonked us in that game, with their fans chanting 'we'll never play you again'. How right they were!
