if an eccentric millionaire wanted to invest in a esl club what would be their best choice?,what club has the most potential? The Basildon district has a population of over 250,000 and no league club, billericay are the best placed club playing at step 7, so surely the real sleeping giants of the esl are basildon and bowers and ive heard reports that bill gates was spotted in the stand at bowers a while back. The east london clubs have no real growth potential as they are too near west ham and no bugger lives in hullbridge, sawbridgeworth and stansted.

Hullbridge has a population of 8000 living in the biggest village around southend and a big catchment area that includes Rayleigh, rochford, hockley.the facilities can be improved up to league standard with room enough for a 20000 stadium,hotel,3 training pitches, third generation grass pitch and parking for 1000 cars. For only an fa youth cup match vs blackburn over 1000 locals turned up!

Steady on the Hockley thing..... it is a Romford enclave.

Seriously Hullbridge must be given more exposure.

i think the fact bowers get a few on saturdays is evidence its got potential. especially as its so close to the a13. most of our crowds this season have been around 70 with the exception of a few low ones over xmas bringing average down.

i would like to think burnham has the potential but they are already looking good with facilities but no bugger goes up there

If Eton Manor had a ground in East London I know they would get a decent crowd. When we played Clapton last season in some cup game there were at least 70-80 people there. Alot of people wanted to watch Eton Manor over the last few years but ground sharing with Burnham and Tilbury killed them.

As a "new Town" Basildon falls way behind the other post war new towns in terms of football stadia. e.g. Stevenage and Harlow.

One of the reasons for this is the amount of local non-league competition for fans.

If Grays get the go ahead for a new stadium near the five bells, then we may see the floating fan and the new fan looking for a club to support, heading there!!!
