Fun Day May 7th

Hello all,

I've been asked by the fundraising guys to put a note on here about the upcoming Fun Day being run in the hope of getting us some much needed cash - as well as raising awareness about the club.

May 7th for all of you without a calendar nearby is a Bank Holiday Monday and the activities are only due to run between 12pm and 4-5pm so there's no excuses allowed on this one!

It's to be held at the Polish Club and while the final details are yet to be confirmed there are several things I can tell you about, plus I have a few favours to ask...

Firstly - and most excitingly - there's to be a football tournament.

Currently, we're planning for six teams to take part in six or seven a side matches including the supporters' team and if I can get them, two ladies teams.

Here comes the first favour - if anyone knows of any referees or anyone who is training to be a referee who would be willing to come down and officiate on the day could they please get in touch with me, alan harding or mike lightfoot.

The Fun Day will also see the mighty return of the highly popular raffle - nearer the time Alan will approach you all i'm sure with books of the tickets but for now I'd like to appeal to anyone who works for a big business who may be able to get them to donate a top prize (I was thinking of something from Legoland perhaps Radders?) Without a big prize the tickets don't sell nearly as well and as we need to allow time for printing the tickets and distribution time is short, so I'd ask anyone who thinks they or someone they know who could help to come find me, Alan or Mike as soon as possible - prefereably in the next two weeks.

I'd also like to appeal to anyone who is a member of a local band (or anyone who knows a good one) who would be prepared to play on the day for "beer money". Perhaps the students amongst you know a good uni/college band? Again, please get in touch sooner rather than later.

Finally if anyone has any additional ideas for things to do on the day or stalls that they would like to showcase, please get in touch with myself Alan or Mike or leave a message on here.

Many thanks in advance

Charlie

Charlie, if someone can send/give me a letter on a bit of headed STST paper with some details about the raffle and what it is fundraising for, I will be able to get something from work.

STST - this applies for just about any of the raffles that you conduct, but I do need the letter from you to get something, I cannot get things without it.

Here's a few ideas to start with......

Kicking a ball through a hole for a prize, like they do on Soccer AM.

The club shop should be open at the venue.

We definately need to put posters up around town, and have adverts on local radio and newspapers to promote the event.

Raffle prizes could include vouchers to home games, to try and get people to come to the games.

If some progress has been made regarding a home ground, we could put a stand up with details of what will be/should be happening.

I'll add more as I think of them...

Ah but Marcus your recent absences from Supporters Matches for an inability to tolerate alcohol means that your place is surely under threat.

Horsham

Your raffle prize idea is definately a good shout - although they were after a BIG prize to get people who aren't necessarily interested in the club to buy tickets - but definately worth a mention.

Advertising was also talked about and we definately wanted to do the papers, radio and possibly icberkshire sites...posters were also a possibility although they do cost money.

Gary - I'll phone Mike and Alan tonight and get them to send you the headed paper letter if you PM me your address?

Sue - That'd be great thank you

Marcus - i think you'll probably be playing but your services would be gratefully received (no silly comments please ladies and gentlemen)

Tom - any bands that would be willing to play for a few quid as opposed to hundreds would be very welcome.

Another reason i am a qualified ref. I dislike certain clubs and players and will pick on them. ( A certain female ref once told a player of ours this! )

Thought the anti-slough songs were pretty light on tuesday considering we knew you was there!

just to bring this back up to the top again - and add a little reminder that as far as i know Alan and Mike are still looking for ideas...

Also, keep Monday March 26th free in your diaries - see the likes of Miller, Wilko and Haley (and probably a few others) strutting their salsa stuff in the name of charidee.... more info soon...
