It says Robert Banks scored one of Basildon Utd's goals instead of Brad Connor.

 

It also says Jack O'Connor scored for "Hullbridge"!!!

The case for the defence....

As with us, the Echo presumably speaks to the club secs to glean info. The Echo really has no case to answer because they have much more time to contact RE on a Sunday or Monday to verify the scorers.

When the ESL copy comes in at the NLP, I check it to the best of my ability (okay, here comes the flak), but when people at a home club answer the phone to the correspondent and deliberately lie, then what can you do about it?

The Echo really doesn't have an excuse. It's one thing to put down an incorrect goalscorer, this could be down to bum info from the club. But to say Jack O'Connor scored for "Hullbridge" instead of Concord Rgrs is just sloppy and lazy.

I sent Dick a four paragraph report on our game at 8pm on Saturday night. All we actually got was a brief two liner based on the Centre Spot. In fact Aveley vs. Wivenhoe Town got more coverage that us. I thought that the Echo was supposed to cover local sport?.
