Hornchurch u 18s v Romford

Well this was a pulsating cup tie and the Bulldog British spirit shone through, two teams going at it hammer and tongs from the word go.

The Hornchurch lads had done their bit on the Saturday by ensuring it was a good playing surface and then let battle commence.

To be fair, the first half was mainly Romford possession and an early header by Boro's Darren Gildersleeve was cleared off the line followed by Urchins' Alex Ievoli breaking clear and his attempted lob was saved by the Boro keeper, who had an excellent game.

Alex then received a bad injury in an innocuous midfield collision that meant he was stretchered to the changing room to be replaced by Edward Freeman up front.

Perry Burns was, by this time, starting to make inroads down the Boro left flank, and typically at 43 minutes had a close effort that was close to putting the Urchins in front.

Chow Sandhu was creating a lot of chances for himself and looked to score several times on one on ones but the Boro' keeper was outstanding in keeping the Urchins at bay.

Finally the deadlock was broken on 85 minutes and it was courtesy of a penalty given by the excellent referee, Warren Harvey for a foul by Spencer Harrison.

Wih the game seemingly lost, the Urchins pressed for an Equaliser and after constant pressure, my Man of the Match, Perry Burns equalised with a header in the 89th minute.

Finally the referee blew up for full time, meaning another 15 minutes each way.

The game was end to end but that man Perry Burns popped up again in the inside right berth to score the winner 6 minutes into extra time.

As said above a full blooded cup tie, with no quarter given, the Urchins through to meet Dagenham and Redbridge, we think at home, in the Semis, in a Cup won by our lads in 2003 and 2004.

The losers? All those who stayed indoors.

Footnote: Alex Ievoli has ruptured Medial ligaments as reported from Queen's
