Every football loving Dad’s nightmare….

Hookey

Recommended Posts

Last night my 19 year old son Joe (only child) sat me down and said “Dad, there’s something I have to tell you and I don’t think you’re gonna like it”!!!

Bracing myself for the “Dad, I’m gay” speech, (Which frankly would have been a hell of a surprise considering the amount of young ladies he’s been out with) he blurts out “Dad, I’ve signed for Basildon United”!!!!!!

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I cried, “where did I go wrong, how could you do this to me, have you no shame”?

I left the room to gather my thoughts and upon my return, I reassured him that no matter what, his mother and I would still love him. Ok, so we would never have grandchildren (I had just kicked him hard in the nuts!!) but that we would still be there for him.

So if you see a shadowy figure wearing dark glasses and an overcoat with the collar turned up, sneaking in and out of Gardiners Close (The home of Basildon Utd) like some old pervert creeping in and out of a Soho clip joint, it will probably only be me going to watch my son. If you see me, please do not acknowledge me or say hello as I would be too embarrassed to reply!!!

I have started a support group for parents in a similar situation and you would be surprised how many Dads have found themselves in the same boat, i.e. their son joining the local rivals.

But I already have some subliminal brainwashing going on. When he goes to sleep I put the stereo near him and play a CD saying....' I love Arsenal, I'm going to play for Arsenal....' etc etc.
I also have one for Eton Manor but he told me they weren't good enough!

It was correct in the programme, what more do you want? grin

I thought that I did quite well considering that no programme information was provided to me by the Boro' secretary. (Check Rule 8.21) whistle
