An unusual looking line up, with ex-Spurs and QPR Steve Slade making a surprise appearance, saw a strong Dagenham side struggling in the first half, when Foyewa and Slade dictated the play, with good support from Fletcher and Crowther. Urchins had eight good openings, all of which ended with the offside whistle, with the visitors extremely fortunate on at least two occasions, when first Gasper and then Sadler were clear, and not looking anything like offside. Batt, from a Bouchard corner, was closest for the visitors, his shot going wide of the goal.

With the frost hardening up the pitch noticeably in the second half, Urchins stepped up the pace, but fell behind to a goal by TOM PENDERGASS who took advantage of some slack defending to stab the ball home from the left wing cross. Gasper and Oakley both went close before SHANE OAKLEY picked up an excellent defence splitting pass, coasted past two defenders and hit the ball low and hard to the keeper’s left. With Urchins pressing hard for another goal, the referee halted play ten minutes from time when an Eskimo started to build an igloo behind the goalmouth. Maz was quick to point out that it had no sanitation and therefore could only be classed as an ig, and not an igloo. A good game but an expensive one, with three match balls booted out the ground into oblivion.
