Nigeria v Ghana Tonight at Brentford

Recommended Posts

Paulb - Do you really believe that crowd figure, it's common knowledge that attendances for such games are manipulated and Brentford will have made a very tidy sum indeed from the fixture where the cheapest ticket was £25. I estimated the true gate was in the region of 13,000 with just as many, if not more, outside without tickets, there weren't any tickets being sold on the night.

As for the hospitality it was second to none on what was a very cold night, even Hillingdon Borough would have been hard pressed to match it and I found myself rubbing shoulders with African Royalty and Politicians who were all over 'the messiah' like a rash.

But I thought BewareofRHODEntS was Dutch? That more or less qualifies you as a Dutchman, doesn't it?

Think she was Danish? Close enough though...

Er hello, I don't know whether you know Brentford's ground but if so how on earth would 13,000 be able to cram in if all four sides weren't open, I'm surprised there wasn't another Hillsborough in Braemer Road and as I said the ground was totally inadequete for the magnitude of the occasion, it was like holding the FA Cup Final at Rochdale or Macclesfield.

Would the honourable gentleman please answer the question with a straight "yes" or "no" ?

Well obviously 'yes', it's probably the most ridiuculous question I've ever heard unless Paulb doesn't know Griffin Park and thinks it's a 35-40,000 capacity stadium, I'm sure, like everyone else, he does though.

I know it and 7000 would easily fit into 3 sides, just they are having some rebuilding work done on the Ealing Road end and sometimes dont open that side. Every report I read states the attendance at 7000 so why would I believe someone who seems to exaggerate everything he says, so much so that he has made himself and his probably very nice club a laughing stock.

Thanks for saying we're a nice Club which we are but I certainly don't exaggerate everything as you unfairly suggest, I don't need to talk the Club up as our total football style does the talking. Ask your mate NeutralFan who was mesmorised by our display at Hoddesdon on 23 December in what was the most lethal second half displays of football ever witnessed by those privileged to be present, even Roger congratulated me afterwards and shook me firmly by the hand which is unheard of.

How much were they charging for the match at Brentford Rhodes? With regard to the attendance 13,000 is (slightly) more than Griffin Park holds, so if you were right then the stadium would have been packed out, Im sure there would be pictures or a video on the net somewhere which would give an indication to the actual attendance.

Incidently, the latest UWC (Unnoficial World Championship) match was also played midweek, with Georgia retaining there "Title" following a 1-0 win over Turkey. Georgia's next match is against Scotland in about 6 weeks time, so we may be hearing a bit about the UWC in the weeks leading up to it. If Scotland are successful then 4 days later they play the Official World Champions Italy so the two titles could be unified, for a short time at least.

they showed some clips of the Ghana v Nigeria game on BBC and Griffin Park did look full of mainly Ghanain fans and they were very lively.

I didn't notice any Nigerians falling on the floor in front of a chubby insignificant football coach though.

I gather the cheapest available ticket was £25 with no reduction for children which is probably why I saw so few kids, obviously Brentford knew they could sell the game out three or four time over and stipulated no child reductions. The stadium was indeed packed out, sardines would be an under statement, indeed I have never experienced such frightening scenes getting into a ground since the Spurs v Arsenal game in 1971 when Arsenal clinched the double, as I said it could easily have been another Hillsborough.

I presume the cheapest tickets would have been the standing area, thats a hell of a lot to be charging! Didn't realise the match was being played until too late (the day of the match) and would have been interested in going, 25 quid would have put me off though.

AWK - I would have obviously asked 'the messiah' to get you a ticket had I known you wanted to come, it would have been good to have you there so you could have endorsed my every word to 'non believers' such as Lato, Paulb and Potters Bar Town particularly where 'the messiah' was concerned and 'his disciples' falling at his feet.

Just to put this nonsense to bed for once and for all, the match report on the official Brentford website states that the crowd was just over 7,000. There is also a picture of Michael Essien evading a tackle from a Nigerian player. In the background is a large chunk of terracing containg THREE supporters.

With regards to pricing, there was a note on the website saying that a limited number of tickets WERE available on the night.

Oh, and from my personal experience of staging a match at Griffin Park, Brentford will advise regarding admission charges but tend to leave the final decision down to the match organiser. Therefore, the decision to charge £25 had nothing to do with how many people Brentford thought would turn up.

What's the weather like in RhodesWorld? It's been snowing here this week.

Exactly, it will be interesting to know how much Brentford made from the game if you are able to find that out, somehow I think that is 'Royal Secret' information in the corridors of power at Griffin Park otherwise the boys in blue will be descending like flies.

Are you suggesting that Brentford did something illegal on Tuesday evening? It'll be interesting to see what my close friends on the Board at Griffin Park make of that Rhodes.

I should imagine Brentford received a set fee agreed with whichever of the two nations was "hosting" the game, plus any refreshments and club shop sales on the night. Why are you so interested?

I saw somewhere that, whereas Arsenal charged a "six figure sum" to stage the Brazil Game, Brentford charged a "four figure sum" to Ghana. Presumably Kentish Town will get a substantial discount when they begin their groundshare at The Emirates?

Horace - I'm not so much interested but more curious, I would be very surprised if Brentford agreed a four figure sum beforehand, even £9,999. The gate receipts were surely in the region of £250,000 although having said that the extortionate prices they were charging for refreshments and the mile long queues at all the tea bars on what was a freezing cold night perhaps you may be right afterall.

Folks - Sorry me again, just came across this link which should dispel all doubts if it works, I thank you:
