Its Northwich Victoria - AWAY!

Recommended Posts

Looking at the quarter final draw, I am fairly satisfied with Northwich Victoria away, this turned out to be one of my most enjoyable away games, hence the two goals in three minutes including the super goal made by Danny Slatter.

I am glad we did not get Kidderminster Harriers away, I did not fancy going to Kiddy twice in eight days.

Shame we did not get Welling United... Grays Athletic have got them instead. I see an upset on the cards for that fixture.

So after the Morecambe home match on Saturday, three long trips in three weeks: Oxford United, Northwich Victoria and Kidderminster Harriers (on the train (lol)).

I must say that I feel somewhat concerned about all the media talk that seems to put the 'Fleet up as favourites to win the Trophy.

I am glad that the club seems to be playing this down and quite rightly so in my opinion.

I am sure that those comments will only act as a 'red flag to a bull' to Northwich and indeed to the likes of Stevenage and Kidderminster also.

I think the subsidized game was Morecambe.

As has been pointed out, the difference between away travel that season and this is that back then, we were regularly running coaches, but now, it's only minibuses. Therefore, whereas then surplus money could be made on away travel, meaning that the occasional subsidized coach could be offered, now it's much less likely.

Also, having spoken to Jessica to clarify the position, when we can arrange to travel with a coach company the passengers become covered by that companies insurance policy. So no additional insurance arrangements have to be made. When a smaller number of supporters wish to travel and coach hire is not viable and the Fleet Trust therefore hires a minibus with one of our members as the driver, to ensure that the passengers are insured this has to be through the Trust's insurance policy, hence the requirement to be a member to travel.

Quite apart from failing to understand why genuine supporters are unwilling to pay £10 pa to join the Trust which will ultimately aid the Club, why shouldn't the Trust be entitled to arrange something for the benefit of its own members? If it were not for the Trust being proactive there wouldn't be an official away supporters presence at all. Although away travel might be an idea for the Football Club to ponder about in the future, when exactly was the last time the Club (as opposed to the Trust) ran a coach or minibus for supporters to attend a Fleet away game? Serious answers to be posted on this forum please.

So, instead of directing complaints about away travel to the Trust, those posting earlier during this thread should address their feelings to the directors instead. Would they be able to arrange travel regularly and consistently that was any more economical though? Who would they get to arrange such travel? At present the directors have absolutely no idea of how many supporters will attend at an away fixture, let alone care how they are going to travel there and back. So why should they want to become involved in arranging transport?
